A mate of mine sent me a text letting me know the bug in question did an 11.92.....sweet
Reub
Is that a street beetle? Not too long ago I remember those times were from the dedicated race VW's.....
Actually I remember going to a Jamboree many moons ago when the Top 8 shootout winner was a VW race bug running 10's........now the street cars are running into the 8's......:jesus
65 Meyers Manx
68 Country Buggy (KO 367)
68 Country Buggy (KO 669)
68 Country Buggy (KO 789)
68 Country Buggy (KO 815)
68 Baja Bug
76 Baja Kombi Twincab
Yeah good on those to guys running
48IDA always runs hard and the other brown beetle ran just as well.
What happened to Penrose and CBB I thought this would have been compulsory racing for them.
Wasn't as good as last year seems these days you can stick a rotary or ej20 in anything and run.
Might get my act together build my new engine and run my beetle next year just for fun, if funds allow, won't be breaking any records .
how did the smiths go? the metallic brown cal-look beetle
Don't know their times but the runs I saw were really sweet
I think they were both street beetles as they had plates on them
10's........now the street cars are running into the 8's......
They are some very serious street cars, generally with rotaries and huge tyres. Would love to see how they go in street trim as all the Gtrs etc kept getting bogged down on the line with no traction and they were running 14's

rhys
it aint just cool its aircool'd
There were 3 vw running, 2 bugs and a rotary powered manx. Bit dissapointing not seeing of the big name vw cars there, but it was really busy this year. In teh show there was a cal look beetle and a blue show beetle with big chrome wheels. In the club display, there was a grey carrea kitted beetle and also the raffle bug from the VWDCQ.
There was lots to look at, and some nice cars to😉
I have no sympathy for my car, only the wallet that pays for it!
Go hard or go home!!!!
Hi Everyone,
I own 48 IDA . I had Peter Page driving it at the Jamboree on the weekend.
Pete also does all the wrenching.
We are very happy with the 11.929 @ 109.7 m.p.h.
Top qualifier All Motor class.
Rod.
Nice work Rod...always good to see your car run...sounded good two.
Yep well done Rod (and Pete) - finally the elusive 12 sec barrier is broken! Hope a sign of more things to come.
Yes street legal/registered folks. All steel bodies 61 beetle. Alloy front beam is about the only weight saver.
well here is a pics form the jamboree. one of the bugs in the show
I have no sympathy for my car, only the wallet that pays for it!
Go hard or go home!!!!
Wow thatS awesome!! Congrats Rod & Pete.
Where did you find all that extra HP from?? About 15hp more than the last run!!!
What other 4s and Rots were in your bracket?
Cheers Craig.

Bugged again. 2276cc vw case , 48 IDA's , 11:1 comp, Engle FK 87 cam , 2" merged exhaust. MSD Billet Dizzy and 6 AL ignition. Scat rods, Autocraft 1.4 Rockers.
42 & 37.5 valves. + Big revs & close ratio 1st to 4th . Aluminium spool.
Craig - not sure where the 11 came from . Big m.p.h. too .
Congratulations on a sub 12. Very, very impressive. It must be a hell of a fun ride.
What fuel are you running with the 11:1 compression?
I am assuming you had a decent pair of slicks as well. What size and brand?
Well done,
James C.
Shell 100 James. 24 inch tall by 6 inch wide Firestones.
when driving on the street the main rule is not to floor it unless the front wheels are pointing straight. Apart from that it is fairly docile until it comes on cam.
Congrats again Rod...was going to come over for a chat while you were in the staging lanes but didn't want to miss the run.
A quick question.....how do you go temp wise with the comp ratio your running. I've seen the car at quite a few shows so it does a few miles i'm guessing.
Cheers
Who owns the brown streeter in the pics?
Does anyone know how quick he ran and what's the engine
specs?
Cheers Craig
Car runs on highway at about 150-180 C. Has full VW cooling , a Type 4 oil cooler and a remote cooler. It does a few miles each year.
Brown car belongs to Morgan Smith with input from brothers Macca and Lachlan Smith . All from Wollongong. Has a 2332 and was running low 13's all weekend but cracked a 12.99 in the final . Lovely set of ERCO's on it.
Was running 100mph at Sydney Nationals on 165's .
