Well what a great morning it is here in the supposedly safe as houses suburb of Newport - we stupidly left the 62 convertible on the roadside last night - wont be doing that again..... some idiot has slashed the plastic window section of the roof and when they realised they couldnt nick it, stamped on the bonnet in frustration....!

So it looks like im in need of a cheap new bonnet (Car is fire engine red should by some miricle have one lying around!) and if anyone has any suggestions of where or how to go about replacing the plastic windows rather than buying a whole new hood - would be much appreciated - rant over, hope y'all have a better morning!

Still could be worse, thank god they didnt steal it altogether as we could only get third party cover with Vigil as its not a Karmann....hohum.

Steve.

My sister lives in Newport (sydney) and had her car stolen from the front carport (a couple of yrs ago now). Fortunately she didn't have much petrol and they only got as far as the corner. I used to play Rugby for Newport (Sydney) and back (mid 80's) then it was a respectable place.

Whilst it has only happened to me once when we lived in Dee Why, its the invasion of your privacy or personal space that is also offensive. I have no answer on how to fix it, only a sympathetic ear.

I hope you can repair it without too much expense.
i plan to live forever.....so far so good.

Thanks guys for the nice msgs! Restores your faith in having a bug! For those who were curious we are talking Newport 2106 (Syd) cant seem to attach a photo of the place but its v nice (even if it does take 1h 15m to get to & from work...

I had to use the car a lot yesterday and im pleased to say that mechanically all is well! Ive beaten the bonnet back in to shape as best i can but definately need another if anyone sees one going! As for the plastic windows, going try to get hold of a sewing specialist locally...!

i think you can get a new window put in by a motor trimmer (sorry if they dont but i think they should do it) , i had a soft top sierra about 2 years ago and i made them replace all the plastic windows before i bought it, just make sure you find a good one as the person that did mine must have done it a bit tight and the roof ended up ripping where it sat on the metal frame.
it sucks that this sort of thing happens, good luck getting it all repaired

Thanks Danielle,

I must admit im not familiar with the term 'motor trimmer' but assume they are the ones who convert the convertibles (so to speak!) professionally? I Will investigate this on the web further, thanks for the advice!

$50 for a winsow souds okay, if anyone knows of a place on or near the beaches, would be useful, cheers again!

Hi by the way Waltermitty! I remember your mint splitty from the Palm Beach run Jen & I did with y'all a while back - i'd be even more gutted if our old banger was as nice as your splitty! I doubt you dare take it too far now then...?

sailmakers may also be able to do it cause they use a similar stuff on sails.
