hey guys
my car was broken into on monday night and stolen stereo and a packet of nerds in my door pocket (that was the worst bit :P) anyhoo.... no damage but a f*Cked enging problem.
They rolled the car down the hill..... i think it was left in gear and its done something,
it wont idle, it would before, its making a sucking noise, didnt do that before, manifold etc is tight,..... when its under throttle it feels normal but when it is idling or i back off the throttle quickly it keeps revving slightly and the throttle arm has returned like normal......
anyone got any ideas?
i need the car to drive back to picton from cranebrook tonight....... anyone got any ideas?
If I don't hook the vacuum hose for the brakes on the kombi I have the same drama. Revs rough but won't idle, but I don't know if beetles have the same set up.
Well my friends are gone & my hair is grey, I ache in the places where I used to play.
Sounds like that too me as well
A vacuum leak will cause a fast idle
I would check the distrib vac advance hose
Futue te ipsum!!!
okay thanks
not that, there was a crack in the hose, but that didnt make much of a difference...... still the same problems with the idle....
Sorry, I don't know what sort of engine you are running (twin port or single port?), but I have seen something like this when the manifold boot (between the end casting and the manifold centre) cracked. Also had same problem when the cap came off the brake booster take off on my Dads 411...either way, it sounds like a vac leak. I would double check everything on and around the manifold, and the ignition timing.
Sorry I can't be of more help.

its a 1300sp.. will get some wd40 and give it a try..... keep ideas coming please.... this is pissing me off..... will it be safe to drive would you think?
...if it is a vac leak, then I wouldn't drive it (it is likely to be running lean = hot), of course if it is only a minor vac leak it may be Ok, but I still would try to fix it first.
Where is the sucking noise coming from?

call the nrma best $50 u can spend they'll find the problem Adam
PS thanx for lowering shazza saved her life:beer
Get some sort of flexible hose and stick it in your ear (NOT TOO FAR :thumb) and move the other end around your motor till u find the leak.😉
I put a 1500 semi auto manifold, and i forgot bout the vaccum port, there was a cap on it but the plug fell out, i found the bolt in the engine bay but didnt know where it came from
guess i found out when my brother stuck his hand in and hot it sucked onto the port hahaha
thanks guys, she's all good now
