hey guys i am going to put new more comftable seats in my 74 kombi (front seats), and my question is this, is it possible to use NON VW seats on the standard brackets and rails without having have to get a engineer cirtificate? if you can use non vw seats with out having have to get a cirtificate can someone name some seats that would fit and of course are comftable. i know all this sounds confusing but if someone can help that would be great
thanks all

Don't know of any non VW ones,
But some early T3 (kombi) front seats will fit, and are better than T2 seats.
Not sure on years that are interchagable.
Good luck!

Good question mate. Look here:
]VicRoads Vehicle Standards Info Brochure List

The VSI about additional seats (the no.19 one)

This one mentions seats too. It's the Roadworthiness info.

Here's a quote from here:

"Q31: Seat replacements - Can I change the seats in my car?
A: Yes, however, if the car was manufactured after 1970 the seat must comply with the Australian Design Rules for seat anchorages and if manufactured after 1971 must also comply with the Australian Design Rules for head restraints. An Engineer's report or a compliance plate is required as evidence of the continued compliance. See Vehicle Standards Information No 19 for more information."

One of the links above is that no.19 brochure.

awersome ill check em out, so does that mean i cant use eg,
ford seats? or does it mean i have to use only the original seats?
oh yeah has anyone done this before?
if ya have how much did it cost for a cirtificate?
or do ya need some thing else to make em legal?
any additinal costs?
thanks

well everything in my bus is custom, so i will be needing alot of certificates, but i have a set of rx3 buckets and they are just about the most comfortable things i have ever sat in and they dont look out of place in the bus.

On a slightly unrelated note, if you plan to add more seats (ie - the extra two rows of three): provided you use original kombi seats that were a factory option for the same vehicle, you WILL NOT need an eng cert in Vic. I recently did this. I got a note from the nice folks at Volkspower Burwood that asserted that the seats and belts I had were genuine and installed in the factory manner, and then went to Vicroads where they updated the rego info free of charge. Yay.

Sorry this is kinda off topic, just thought you might like to know. Remember, it's all gotta be standard.
