Need advice here. Its a '67. Originally a panel but they put 3 windows on each side. Done professionally but you can tell they are not the original of course. Rust in left sill, will need to be replaced. Can't see rust in the right sill but not straight. Rust in the tail gate (repairable). Two out-riggers will need work. No other visiable rust. Has a running 1600 tp engine. Original front seats. Late model speedo with fuel tank guage built in. Original fuel guage replaced with an oil pressure guage. Rear guards have been flared (steel) to accommodate wide wheels. Done professionally os they actually look good. Its a runner. What do you reckon?
Raf
don't supose you got a pic?
I would budget repairs assuming that both sills, outriggers, jacking points, cab floors, and battery tray at the very least need to be replaced whether there is visible rust or not. You can just about guarantee that if you paint it now, within a couple of years rust will start pop through.
At a guess, pay no more than $2,000.
Ain't nothin' like the wind in your hair.
You're a tough man PT3, $2k for a running complete and in good nik Splitty?? Man rust buckets no good except for scrap go for about that much.
Maybe I am.
Splittychick only paid $1800 for hers. In the end, if you think it's worth the money, then it is. Depends on how much you can afford and how much you plan to spend on the resto.

There was a splitty at the swap meet on Sunday that was in dire straights and he had already been offered $1500....it was in very ordinary condition
Was that one of the three on trailers for sale? Two of those sold.

yeah the green coloured split, it was in the middle of a bay and a ute.
he was just going to take the best offer on the day, and at the time that I spoke to him (10.00) he'd been offered $1500
I wouldnt pay more than $2000 for any splitty that need repairs as the cost is nothing compared to what it actually costs to do the repairs.
Also I personally would never touch a panel van that has been converted, as no matter how much work you do it will still be a converted panel van,
They are not that rare that you couldnt find a standard 11 window
Cheers

If its any guide a splitty was sold down here for 4500
It was running had been sprayed and looked clean.
Personally I would rather see all the trouble spots and pay a little less Hopfully
BUT this is all personal because everybody has a different agenda
Bottom line is... you have to be happy with the deal yourself and have a plan
That plan may change but that doesnt matter
NOW to answer your question $2-4000

Thanks all. Yeah I am a bit reluctant to get a converted panel, just not the same. He is also asking $6k so looks like I will let it go
Cheers
Raf
Raf, George at classicveedub has a really nice panel van in Just cars. Dont know the price but I've seen it and it is very solid.
Cheers

Tell 'im he's dreamin'
From the condition you have described, $6k is way too much. The only way you would pay this much is if it had no rust. Walk away, no question.

So what if its a converted panel, mine is & i love it.(i wouldn't pay $6000....way to much)I have no intention of selling mine....EVA....so what does it matter if its not 'rare' its still a splitty & will look wicked when its done!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ditto for me !!!!
It's mine and it's perfect for me. and the kids would go stir crazy in the back of it looking at full panels instead of out the windows.

Or we bay owners can paint a split style two tone paint job on the front panel.

No, there was a guy in Maryborough (Vic) selling two kombis, both splitties. One apparently went to Japan, the other, the $4500 one, which he said was driving... Don't know what happened to that one.
Perhaps that was a real bargain, or had some real issues.🙂
there old and rare,so thay cost big bucks, but still a few cheap ones out there if you can find them but people want them so no wonder there going os,money talks

you guys will all be spittin when they are all in japan or os somewhere and then try and pay you'r measly $3000 to get them back. Take a look in the real world, if all youve got is $10,000 in the bank then stick to a tarago or a hi-ace van, leave the kombi's to the rich hippies and stick to your rice eaters. cheers, fish
