Hi everyone

I have a 1500 engine that I am thinking of putting into a 1300 - is this a common thing to do?? The 1300 is all original so this would alter that - any comments would be greatly appreciated.

Alternatively, does anyone have any suggestions to give the 1300 a bit more go??

I just put a 1640 tp into my 66 bug the only thing you have to do is change the flywheel from the 1300 to the 1500 if you are still 6v if you are 12V you can just stick it in..Easy

Thanks Silver - so is the engine and voltage the only thing that differentiates between a 1300 and 1500?? Are there other structural or mechanical differences?

Physically they are the same, it is the internal dimensions that differ. the flywheels are different in Diameter, That is why you will need to change them over if your car is still 6v ...Then while you are changing them you should replace the rear main seal and O'ring..

The Dog-O-War (71 Baja) has a 1300 block but before I got it had been increased to 1600 (We presume) by exchanging the blocks to the larger capacity and swapping the single port intake to a twin port. It also has a bigger carb. Put the foot down and you can hear it gurgle. Still fairly gutless though. Think this motor has had better days and will be looking for an exchange sson so it can go into the shop / garage.
