On Sunday I got up at about 10.00 am and I spent the day cleaning our fleet.
each car had
- vacuum front & back, and under seats and mats, cat hairs off seats that mysteriously magnetise inside the velour.
- windows cleaned inside
- cleaned door trims & dash
- washed by buckets of water outside and chamoised including door jambs
- mag wheels polished on applicable vehicles
- silicon spray applied to tyres.
The fleet consists of
- 1964 EH Holden showcar (also cleaned engine bay)
- 1975 HELBUS microbus with BLOODY BLACK interior
- 1970 beetle with dark coloured paintwork
- 2000 transit van work vehicle which I did not chamois as it started to get dark.
I have a lot of respect for professional car detailers after that, as my back is still hurting today.
I even managed to align the headlights on all three of our cars also.
Fleur was very happy when she got hom after her day away.
another reason to own a rat, plus im just lasy...
Went away 4 the weekend n paid for the long term parking to wash Dr L this weekend.... n it was only last weekend I did him myself....
I hate the water restrictions...but I guess we have to have them? So much quicker to take them down to the hand car wash and not worry about the neighbours dobbing you in if you use a hose or what ever restrictions we are on now...but a pain taking the chamois and everything else you need with you to finish them off....hate getting the car home half dry n trying to polish it up...
With a fleet of cars it must be a different story...a lot of work taking each one down to washif you did it my way.....don't envy you Pete
It was sweet yesterday picking up Dr L and having him sparkling....n way cheaper than catching a taxi long run....
I feel at one with the cars now. 🙂
Very Zen there Pete :thumb:
my tip, watering can..... like a hose and easier to use 😉
GMC Pressure cleaner $88 from Bunnings, for that money it's worth it just to be able to wash the car.

Pete, you might've already noticed, I hate washing cars regardless of water restrictions!! 😀
Kruizin Kol
If you use a gurnie (hight presure water gun) you'll be within the guide lines and have a nice clean car.
We only have tank water so washing cars isn't on the list of things to use water for at the moment :cussing
MIKE.
VW'S DON'T LEAK OIL, THEY JUST LEAVE THEIR MARK !!!
for those of us without a driveway or a hose that reaches... i know how you feel:beer
ive gotten very good at washing the bug with a bucket... bloody annoying tho!
Thanks for the tip about the watering can adam! im going to try that this weekend!

this made alot of people very angry and is widely regarded as a bad move.
Saw this at the motor show yesterday:

Looks good. They said on ABC radio a few weeks ago that Sydney has 188 weeks of water supply left before we run out. Scary shit.

If they were serious about conserving water, they would stop people using buckets to rinse their cars.
It takes approximately 6-10 9 litre buckets of water (or 54 to 90 litres) for me to rinse off my small car. It takes no more than a minute of fine mist using the trigger nozzle. On that setting, I can only half fill same bucket in the same time. Therefore, if I was allowed to use the hose, I would be saving around 48 to 85 litres of water. But I can't.
These restrictions aren't about saving water, they're simply anti-car.
thanks,
Andrew
* which I don't like using as any particulates in the water scour paint
Although I haven't tested it, I always got the feeling that I would use less water using the mist spray on my hose gun than using buckets. Thanks for confirming that Andrew. Stupid rule!

when i had my kombi resprayed had this wax stuff applied
called magic seal which penetrates the the paint & keeps a permanent shine on the van to which i just wet van wash with
a bucket of water & sponge then hose down & dry.
in the end i use 2 to 3 buckets of water all up & after 3 yrs
the shine is as good new as you can see in post heading
as 'my ride' was worth every cent & protects the paint
from bird droppings as they are filled with citrus which eats in
the paint (2 to 3 buckets includes the hose down) no polishing
Hey Vanderaj, you made a really good site on car cleaning didn't you... can you give me the link again?? using 20-30 litres of water?

I use far more water using a bucket to wash my car than I would a hose... I agree that the restrictions are just to put people off washing cars...
We got a high pressure hose from bunnings...with 6 cars makes the job much easier...and quicker...

I hate washing Wolf with a watering can 🙁

Whingers. Water restrictions are great! The problem with hoses is that most people will stupidly leave them running all the time, and won't use the fine mist sprayer, etc...
Nothing so bad about a bucket. I find I do need a few, but careful splashing rather than just mass bucket tipping works, and saves water.
Yay for water restrictions. Try telling the poor creatures in dried out rivers and billabongs that never flood anymore that you want to spray water around with hoses. Then again, why oh why are we growing things like rice and cotton here, with so little water. Those crops use HEAPS of water. Might be a good idea to look at minimising that major water usage. But that's politically harder, 'cause some dude might lose his job. Freekin' capitalism!
Me a greenie? What you lookin' at? I washed just last month!:P
