out formal is a cocktail party so what do i wear? a suit but tie? open shirt? ...... fill me in
Really depends - what's the occasion?? I would say you couldn't go wrong with suit and tie, but if you felt the occasion would permit - a really slick look of a nice open neck shirt would be cool. Depends if it's a 'work' thing or a 'friend' thing.....that's my opinion anyway....
School formal in november.....
School formal - geez that takes me back....well if they have said it is 'cocktail' then it still could be either. If they had stated 'formal' then it would definitely be with tie. But cocktail really does leave it open for interpretation (again, that's what I think but I'm not an expert on such matters)....
So either is ok I think - depends what you feel most comfortable wearing. Don't think there are any strict rules if not specifically 'formal'. At least at school formal you're not out to impress the boss, or anything like that.....(just the chicks heh???)
I'd probably go with the tie, and if it turns out to be a bit much you can always take it off.
Dude, if not your actuall ball ... where you should really wear something snazzy and hire something ...
But if its just another school function, I would take myself down to good sammys and buy myself a classy 70's suit, it provides a talking point, the ladies love it, and you don't care if you spill sh$t on it ... perfect 🙂

wear something really metro. Very tailored shirt, pants neat but not overdone. you could probably get away with a funky tie as well... plus you get to wear trendy sneakers so you are comfortable all night.
formal but casual, you cant go wrong.

Adz what r your mates doing? r there girls in your group of friends doing a glam/elegant cocktail thing or are you partnering one doing the cool chic thing? ....This is preparing you for life Adz....start panicing now!!!!

mate..can never go wrong with a good suit and tie. but then again...i'm a romanticist(and only 18 and 6months...*sigh*) i forked out a bit for a very nice tailored microfibre suit last year..never goes out of fashion. black silky shirt, silver tie..black jacket,pants,and shoes. classy as.

Club VW Illawarra was invited to the pre motorshow cocktail party once. We wore jeans and VW Tshirts. Despite my yearly request, I havent been able to get an invite since then 🙁

For a school formal, I'd wear smart suit / tuxs, couloured shirt and a 70's style coloured tie.
Or just watch queer eye for a staight guy.lol
I've used grace brothers or David jones in the past to hire juits, because there's 100's of differnt styles to choose from and there only around $100-150 to hire.
i have my own suit from last formal, and am getting it adjusted i think, its a cheap 200 suit but it'll do..... thinking candy striped shirt and Beefy tie hehe

My advice is the same as for my son - If going with a girl, ask what they want you to wear. The girls have this everything has to match and blend thing going on. Worked well with him, as the two outfits actually compliment each others.
If going with the mates, see what they are wearing or possibly wear a suit that you can arrive and then take off the jacket and/or tie to suit everyone else.
If you can't laugh at yourself you can't laugh at anyone else! Because life is to short not to LAUGH
yeh were playing gold in the mornin at the golfclub the formal is at, then goin to the formal, so just with mates, no1 is really goin with another this year...... strange
oh that'd suck....what are you supposed to do later in the evening when the booze comes out,.. )you said it was a golf course??lots of gren open spaces and plenty of bushes to hide in....)
