If i buy a car from the ACT with 12mths rego and get it transfered to NSW where i live, do i retain the 12 mths rego??
Or should i get them to cancel the rego and buy it un registered and just blue slip it straigh into my name??

a car hey Baz
is it a dub?
😉
you have to treat it the same as if it was unregistered & make very sure numbers on present paperwork are correct,
a receipt from owner with their name Address etc & the Chassis & engine numbers on it
& then go & get a blue slip
Please, I need drivers side window regulator (winder mechanism) for my '54
Costa - the time is getting nearer. And yes, i have my eye on 2 L bugs. A 74 and a 75
Kim - but do i get to keep the 12 months or do i loose it??? and have to pay for it again myself??

The vehicle will transfer with the 12mth rego, but you'll need a pink slip to confirm it meets NSW standards.
no, you lose it,

:jesus
ok - now i am confused :alien
Futue te ipsum!!!
you need a blue slip,
the 12 months rego does not transfer, as that revenue has gone to ACT

So i should get them to de-register it so as they get that money back and deduct that off the price of the car??

your decision, you have a few weeks driving around in NSW before the vehicle is legally unregistered (& uninsured) , so that lets you drive it around, suss out problems & get a blue slip a bit easier, the money back from the actual rego, rather than Green slip, is probably only $100 & something anyway

Can I have the struts and the steering wheel? :thumb
Squiz.....
In the ACT the greenslip compnent of the rego is paid with the rego at the Motor Registry when you register the car. To transfer Rego from ACT to NSW you will need to get a Blue Slip, then the pink slip and green slip, then race off to the Motor Registry and pay for the rego compnent. The ACT Rego inspections are very good, most vehicles from the ACT are rust free or have little rust. I have had to do this in the past, it is a bit of a pain but not very difficult to do.
HAve fun doing the transfer.
you do not need a pink and a blue.... that makes no sence why get it inspected 2 times?
bas get em to de rego, then take it for a blue get a green and bobs ya uncle
Hey Barry,

or try this one too.

maybe they can point you in the right direction
surfchickhangten
get them to cash rego in and deduct off price, then get it blue slipped in nsw otherwise you will probably have to pay transfer fees to the act to cash rego in, well thats what would happen in good old NSW:cussing
meetings 1st sunday of the month

My car came from ACT. I didn't cash in the rego, although I think I could have. I needed a Blue and Green slip, and engineering certificates for the Modifications to get the blue slip, then paid at the RTA. Got new NSW plates at the same time (of course)
"Tell him 'We've already got one'"
I've done this a few times, but a few things you should note:
- if you are buying from a yard / dealer (and not from Joe Private), I believe it is still illegal in ACT to buy a car unregistered. Of course this is fine if buying privately, but it is my understanding that car dealers MUST sell registered vehicles
- even if you now can buy unregistered from a dealer (rules can change), won't you need some sort of rego on the car when you first buy it in ACT to drive it to NSW, before you get it in your name? I assume so...unless you are going to transport it to NSW.
- on interstate transfer, you get a blue slip, then the green.....pink is only when the car is already rego'd in NSW. Blue gets it rego'd there for the first time.
- and yes - if you have interstate rego and it is cancelled, get the receipt from the motor registry (when you hand them the plates) and send it to the other state with a letter requesting refund of the unused portion of the rego. They will send you a nice cheque. Don't send them the plates, they are supposed to be surrendered to a motor registry
Good luck!
The other option is to leave it registered in the ACT at a friends or family members address. It is cheaper rego and you can pay 3 months at a time instead of the full 12months.
