Hi guys, just bought a vw, I live in Melbourne and was looking for some opinions on cheap and trustworthy vw mechanics in the Melbourne area????

I would also greatly appreciate peoples opinions on 'Volks Affair' in Sth Melbourne, run by a guy named Matt O'Shaughnessy????

And, VOLKSPOWER, in Burwood run by Dean???

How do their prices compare?? is their work top notch??

Lastly what should I be expecting the fitting of a second hand gearbox to cost??

Sorry bout all the questions, just have a limited budget and don't want to be ripped off:thumb

I've been talking to Dean at Volkspower and he's been great. Haven't had any work done yet (waiting, waiting) but he's been really helpful and seems passionate about restos (not just because he gets paid to do it).

Volks Affair $$$$
Had a quote a while ago from them for some work and they were a bit over the top considering the price I ended up paying. I think they do mostly new dubs and subi work but I am probably wrong.

I don't know anyone who goes to Volks Affair...so can't comment...

Volkspower has a good name...but I use Volkscare in Bayswater...Michael's excellent with mechanics..but can be a bit far to go for a lot of people to get to

Where are you...there are a couple in the north as well Volkshome

We've always gone to volksaffair (with my 70 beetle) - I can't comment on prices coz I haven't shopped around - but they always do a good job. Everytime I go they seem to be working on old vw's as opposed to new & subaru - but I'm not there often........

Thanx people for the advice. So what should I expect to be paying for a second hand gearbox fitted?

Swing axle or IRS box?

Second hand may not be much better?
