What is NOS??? I read it everywhere and cannot figure out wht it means....
Standard/not standard - something along those lines??

I know - I was worried it was the dumbest question ever to all those experienced vw heads - but I just had to bite the bullet. (plus I knew that at some point in time, everyone would have had to ask the question themselves....)
Beware with NOS, some people will try and sell stuff that has been fitted to a vehicle as NOS.
To be NOS it has to be New, and never been on a vehicle.
If it has its just second hand stuff.

...don't worry, your not the only one who doesn't/didn't know what it means - just wander around a swap meet and see how many people will try to sell you a "NOS" something that has obviously been used.
As it was stated above -NOS is NEW old stock - something that had been sitting on someones shelf for many years and NEVER BEEN USED (ie: new!) Secondhand parts, regardless of how much use or quality of rebuild/repaint/polish are not NOS.
This is one of the biggest issues I have with parts merchants - make a point of correcting someone who is selling secondhand stuff as NOS as they have marked the price of the item up because it is NOS....
...OK rant over now - I think I will go and have a lie down now! 😉

I totally agree with you, I have seen people on this site trying to sell stuff and stating "was NOS"

Its either new old stock which means it has NEVER been fitted or it is second hand , there is NO in-between.
Its just like the dealer who has registered the name of a famous performance parts maker who is selling windscreens supposedly by this company, they never made them, but he is adding there name to them, also to other things that the original maker never made, I think this is really bad as someone new to the scene would think that they are buying the stuff that they read about in the American mags
