Tomorrow we are going to pay deposit on our 71 1300.

It's stock standard, all original and in excellent condition. It's a gorgeous, neat and good looking beetle - but it just lacks a bit of 'wow'. Colour is moss green which isn't the most 'upbeat' colour either.

What would you guys suggest to give it a bit of oomph - or just cruise and enjoy it's original features?? I know there will be two schools of thought, but interested in any ideas.

Wondering whether changing anything will add value or diminish value due to its perfect original condition. (As we are spending quite a bit of $$ to purchase it, we want to make sure we at least retain her value)

I am only thinking of cosmetics - ie wheels, eyelids(?) - but am looking for all suggestions.

What would you guys do (and I'm not going to slam it and drop a 1916 into it - as someone previously suggested - thanks anyway..lol...)

I've been joking to everyone that I was going to "slam it and drop a 1916 into it" - even though it took me a while to figure out exactly what that meant :P

also - just for my info - I know that slamming it means lowering it (I hope I know that) but does that also meant that the back wheels go inwards - like I've seen on some beetles?? or is that something else?

brm's are cool rim's that are normal black.. theyre 4 spokes (or five, depending on your stud pattern) and they have polished edges..

my favorite wheel.. will get a set one day!

the 5 spokers look way cool all polished (no black parts) but the 4 spokers look best black/polished...

well i reckon anyways!

the wheels going in wards is cause by the lowering of the car, its called negative cambe 😉 the lower the car the more sever the angle.

slamming is lowering as well, like same same.

and brm's are a type of mag that suit vw's
try searching thesamba.com (another vw site)

hope this helps 🙂

hmm - appreciate the comments but not sure black would look good on her - I think chrome (or silver) or whatever it is would look good.

How do I determine what the 'stud pattern' is - is it just a matter of looking - or are they certain types on certain models??

The early stud pattern of 205 pcd ( wide five stud ) only ran up to the end
of 1967.They were then converted to the smaller 4 stud.Which is what yours should be.
BRM's were only "originaly" made in the wide 5 stud.
Now you can go 4 stud late beetle style and even 17" new beetle style.
Tisk Tisk, another original part taken over by reproduction guru's.

pod i`ve got to finish this thing one day
