just wondering what the maximum width of the wheels can be to fit under stock beetle guards?
ive got new wheels and the fronts look like 6's and the backs look like 7's.

this made alot of people very angry and is widely regarded as a bad move.
depends on the offset, ive had 2 different sets of mags, a set of empi 8 spokes and a set of hotwires on a bug. the empis are outside the guards by a good 20-30mm on the front but inside at the back on a sbug, and about half that on the 70 1500 bug. the hotwires are only just outside the guards by about 10-15mm on the front but again inside on the back. so it all comes back to what tire you run and the offset

and its 10mm in under the guard😎😎
and ive checked the tyres on the new wheels... bridgestone re92's
fronts are 195/65 with 90H
back are 215/65 with 96H
and they are 14" wheels
will they fit comfortably?

depending on the offset they should be close. is this the reason you were looking for the wide rear guards

nope, ive got wide wheel guards... one of them is in need of some TLC tho...
i was actually wondering if i could get away with stock guards so my bug wouldnt look stupid with chrome bumper bars and over-riders
to date i havent seen anyone get away with over-riders looking decent with wide guards.

Comfortably no,fit maybe, years ago i rang up VVDS and asked about wheels and tyres for a 67 beetle and there rec. was fr. 185/60 or 65x15 or 195/65 and rear 195/65 or 205/70/15 max but you have 14in donuts so i dont know im just here posting to get my numbers up :blah
Well would you believe I just got my 7 inch rear rims and 205/60r15 tires put on today. On the rear thay just stick, out and will probably just polish the inside lip of the guard when squating. I got the centres moved out 13mm from the standard wheels. The inside has about 5mm to the upper shock mount for clearance. Ont the front i run 5.5 inch (will be 6 inch next week!!!) with 195/60r15 with a 9mm guard spacer and they clear nice. looks nice a tough I think to. This is all under L bug guards.
I have no sympathy for my car, only the wallet that pays for it!
Go hard or go home!!!!
so i guess seeing as how they are 14's then it should be right...
i guess i could always just but some cheap stock guards and try it out...

just find someone with a simialar car and bolt them on. I had a look last nite and my tires are going to rub a little under full compression.
