when I was 18 I wanted an RX4 for my first car, you know the little ones that have the rotary engine......hmmmm. Dad told me that I'd kill myself in a rotary so he made me buy a toyota corolla coupe (79).

Hi J,

Parents always think fast cars are dangerous...but its bad drivers that are the problem, regardless of the vehicle.

I love all the classic rotary's. The corolla coupes are great too and some are getting around with some BIG engines. "Seagull" on here has one.

I recently got a 1200 Coupe thats on the resto list for next year...

I'm a sales rep for work so as such I have to drive around in nice cars. (not that the splitty isn't nice, but I could hardly pick up clients in harry!)

My current car (mazda 6) is due to be upgraded in about 6 months. So, to re-live the fantasy I had as an 18 year old, I am seriously thinking about getting a new RX8. Nice car!!!!

My corolla coupe was great, it was just a little standard model, but it did go very well and really, it is my favourite car, I think that everyone's first is their favourite (well the same could be said for a couple of different firsts too, not just cars !!!)

I should also mention that, when I was 18 my boyfriend had a 1963 XL Falcon with a V8 in it ( I cant remember the size) But anyway I thought it would be cool to get an old Cortina, you know the ones with the round tailights, so that his big falcon and my little cortina would match. hahaha what a dill.

but again, kyboshed by father who said that the corolla would be much more reliable.....

My other half ryan has a s1 rx7, a 1300 as a daily and another 1300 as a project which he is going to put a rotary in as well. He is a huge mazda fan.

I'd still have the XL if it wasn't for children. we had a baby and did the responsible thing, sold it and bought a VN Commodore wagon for safety ! ha what a laugh, the solid old XL would have stood up a sight better than a VN in a smash!!

It was the quickest thing of all time, I'd be at the traffic lights, and a VK turbo with 4 boys in it would pull up next to me, I'd just give her a bit of a rev, they'd be hot to go and I would absolutely blow them away...It was so quick off the mark for such a heavy old bugger. I miss that car.

of course the XP coupe is the most sought after of the old falcons.....the grille on the XP was flat...I liked the XL particularly because of the arrow head grille...the old XP's now doing the rounds are pretty pricey these days.

We picked our first one up (we've had 2, the other one's not worth mentioning !!) for $1500 about 12 years ago.

oh I agree, but for some reason people seem to prefer the XP. Look in the auto supermarket vintage cars mag, the XP's go for a lot more than the XM or XL, though they are a nicer car

I think it's because a lot of resto's have been done on the XP coupe and it is a nice looking car. They are hard to come by these days.

(sorry to hijack your thread - didn't this start about Mazdas!)

i sell mazda parts in brissie.
rotatrys are cool cars but a whole lot of wankers seem to buy them..
the RX8's are pretty good cars, no problems or recalls so far, unlike the mazda 6, but they are stil a niiiiiice car...
in a few more months or so mazda is going to release a whole lot of mazspeed racing gear onto the market for all the new cars, and in a year or a turbocharged all wheel drive mazda 6 will be coming out....
am a fan of the old rotaries though!!!
everything dies baby, thats a fact..

hasn't the mazda 3 been recalled as well? I know mine has been recalled - something to do with the seat mounts or brackets. Mazda didn't send it out registered post though which surprised me

yeah it is usually wankers that buy the old rotarys.

errr mazda3, mazda3, mazda3, let me think....hmmmmmm
errr nope, no recall yet as far as we have been told.....
wouldnt be a stretch of the imagination to believe mazda has informed the customer before the dealerships though! has happend before!

yeah i have to deal with those wankers daily... got a good story about how a spoilt rich wank owned a private import rx7 and he was trying to get parts off us, when we dont have any info on non-australian domestic vehicles... anyway, what he ended wanting was a bit that some bodgy dude has put on to block the emission controls systems = illegal, but the dude knew it wasnt a mazda bit!! yet he was tryin to buy it through us!
its like a tool tryin to buy hyundai bits through mazda...

Herbie sports a 12a, and I have an RX3 too,
And I love my V8 Too
I have fun in all my cars reguardless of what powers them,

I have had heaps of rotarys and love them, but I do agree, half the time you meet a rotary nut and just shake your head.

Cheers Anthony

You'll find that opinions have changed on "rice cookers"....many BIG V8's have been left for dead at traffic lights and at the 1/4 mile

My son is selling some R100 parts ( similar model to the pic in this first post) if anyone wants some....
Too many to list, but most outside panels etc & interior.
he is going to list them on Ozrotary soon....
If you know anyone who is chasing parts ....let us know, we know how hard they are to come by.

Get one rx3 with a stock 13b, wack a whopping great turbo on it,
instant 10 second car
Makes you think how much money goes into a v8 or vw motor to get those times

Then you destroy the standard apex seals and scour the housing internals from running a noncompressed 13b with a turbo.
Aswell as how is the standard fuel pump gonna keep up with the new enormous fuel delivery required?
Not to mention making a new inlet and exhaust for the turbo, and a new......
Takes a shit load of money to get a rota to do 10's.Consistantly!
Have a lot of boys down here running chook cookers, whilst they may be quick, they sure as hell aint standard!
Mazdabate on.
