Yesterday we finally picked up our 71 1300 beetle (yes, the one I have been bugging you all with my questions over the last few weeks). So she's finally home. Problem is, we already had "her" name lined up, then when we finally picked it up - was told it's a boy!! (Is she the first beetle to undergo a sex change??)
Anyway, it's moss green, cream interior - (linings etc so clean - still like new). Original paint work in excellent condition (minus one or two stone chips and some wear on the inside door pillar where seatbelt has scratched it).
But now it's time for a bit of 'sexing up' - maybe some chrome accessories or something?? What do ya reckon?? Just a bit scared to put 'holes' in her.
We love her (him??)- will post some pics when I get them....
But look out, I will probably have hundreds of more questions now....

Yeh - I think chrom will be my friend - thinking safe at the mo - gravel guards and I like the inside door guards too.
Later, am thinking mesh visor (or is that out of time for that model?? and I really want some rear pop outs). Look out, I'll have her to within inches of being illegal soon (doubt it - just like saying it):P
c'mon hit me with your ideas....
This may help
10. Most VWs have a name. You may change this if you wish providing you use similar procedure to changing the name of a boat.
Select a bottle of wine, brandy, or whatever is your favourite, pour a little over the front bumper and announce the new name. You then drink the rest of bottle with friends who must also contribute a bottle to this auspicious occasion.

that sounds like a good idea - but can you change the sex that easy??
How the hell do you tell the sex of a beetle?????
I say lower it lower than low,Bang on some accessories and enjoy everyone pointing at you, works for me.
Or go the Empi GTV look.

yes chrome is nice but too much will make ya car look like a christmas tree
Is YoUr DaD a TeRrOrIsT cAuSe BaBy YoU dA bOmB
Save your money from trinkets and spend it on a big motor! Lower it a bit if you must but go too far and it makes the car an absolute pain in the ass that you wont wont to drive.:repuke
Re chrome - yeh - I don't want to go too overboard with the chrome - but a few bits just to brighten her up will be nice (I think).
Re lowering it - hmmm, at first I said never, but I'm starting to consider it - just a fraction. I know it would look good - but I have no idea what's involved so who knows.....she is still too new and my mind is reeling with all the options - so everything is up for consideration.
Re a faster engine - I have asked this question before - some say drive the 1300 as is, others say bigger/faster engine!!!
Oops I logged off and gaz logged on to post our 'for sale' post and so I replied under his name (above).

What year would that be??

Simply Cruzin'...
Has that been lowered?? (I think it has but what would I know??). Are there "grades" of lowering - or how does it work. How much has the beetle in the pic been lowered in comparison to non-lowered???
He's pretty low.
The only grades of lowering is up to you.

damn that just about exactly what we're aiming at!
Wish I could get away with a daily driver that low but I doubt it
Thanks Dragbug - you're on the ball - obviously it's a badge - but what does it represent??
Empi made enhancements for the bugs.
This was like putting a "HSV" badge on a commodore for them.
AARRGGHH cant believe i said commodore!
Argh said it again.
Basicly to let other bug drivers know they had a bug with nice flashy accessories.
