I'm just a little bit interested to see how many military or ex-military we have on the forum.
I'm currently in my 11th year with the Navy, working as a Naval Police Coxswain. Love the job and I have been deployed to 3 war like zones within the last 11 years.
If you have some interesting stories or yarns of your service, post them.
By the way the "Navy" is the senior service.lol.:blah
Senior or senile???? lol (You have traditions, Army has habits, we just make Sh** up 🙂)
I am from the younger one 🙂 and have only been blue for almost ten years, was a chocolate soldier before that.
Only two zones, but prefered Bosnia in 2000 to last years holiday in the sun.
'Ah, whatever................'
Im not, but my old man is a medical officer..
Anyone know Major Chapman??
.
RAAF is the only service that is smart enough to send the officers to war hehehe
Ten years of great fun, got out when they started to get serious, missed out by one going to the firat iraq war pissed off about that.
Airframe Fitter with cross training to Engines fitter, Worked on the old herky birds and 707's.
Got to see different parts of the world for free sometimes staying in the best hotels.
Defence civilian - does that count? Probably not.
Worked at Fort Queenscliff serving a whole lot of arrogant majors training to become lt colonels (sp?).
Worst job I ever had - but made me go back to uni and not want to work bars anymore, so I guess I owe it a lot.
and me a lowly gunbuster with out a gun at the moment. 4 1/2 years in the puss 1 trip to the solomans and a lot of time in the south west pacific region.

Penquin, how can you say 'only two zones'? Try 18 years and no zones! Sheesh.....
Well,
Bone C. has three, so therefore I got only two. 🙂
Hey, I am lucky compared to some, only one of mine was one where almost everyone got to go. So at least my war stories don't always start with 'there I was in Dili..........' (VTIC BTW)
What are you Ghost who VWs???

excuse me but all military storie have to start with
"Dead set there i was, thought i was about to die......."
Army for four years, haven't been anywhere to kill anyone.
though i do jump out of airplanes at 12,000ft (and don't say "why do you jump out of perfectly good planes?" My theory is, if that they are owned by the RAAF then they are far from perfectly good.
And before penguin has a go, i have been in a caribu when the load master has turned to me and my guys and told us that it would be a good idea to be getting out right about now (and this was a bit of a way from the DZ)
some people are like slinky's
they have no useful purpose
but they are fun to watch
when you push them down the stairs
yeah if they are anything like the navys mine hunters, which leak like sieves, its just as well.

I'm currently doing some pilot training and I'm interested in joining the defence force
but I'm worried that being only 163cm tall they won't let me in! can you join the defence force if you're an asian aussie citizeN?
Jumpin out of a plane in a bright orange suit would make it pretty easy for the bad guys to pic you off surely...lol
"O.S.K"
We make it happen!
just in case you guys havn't got enough brass razoos up the yangdang....
suss this out.

Lams, yeap a few of my category/trade were Asian Aust.(until they quit) one was vietnamese the other Chinese. So long as you are an Aussie Cit (and sometimes even then..........) and pass a few tests they let you in.
And check up if you are taller in the mroning (I SHI* you not), I am 165cms in teh mornign first up, then due to age, rugby and having the crap worn out of me, I slump/shrink 2 cms in the daytime. Your spine compresses, can't remember the name for the little spongy sacks between the vertabrae back there, but they do shrink).
As for RAAF aircraft being useless, no arguement from me, I just fix the bloody runways!! I want to be a dirt dart 🙂 but maybe I want to walk after I am 40 as well :P

'Ah, whatever................'
i don't think that there are any hight restrictions.
the orange jump suits are so that when the parachute doesn't open they can spot you from the air. 😀😀😀
(the chutes are guarenteed to open, its my job to pack them.)
some people are like slinky's
they have no useful purpose
but they are fun to watch
when you push them down the stairs
i thought they were so they could spot the bodies on the ground from the air when the chute doesnt open

I think there may be a minimum height, I know there is a maximum for certain types as well. Angus (CAF) is just about as tall as you can go, and he would not make it as a fighter pilot.
'Ah, whatever................'
hahahaha
walking after your 40 is highly over rated, hahahaha
hell i just had my ankle reconstructed 7 weeks ago.
but that was a touch football incident.
oh by the way barls, have a read of my post above yours.

Not in the defence force, but I build stuff for them,
with Australian Defence Industries.
12 years chippy in pus's. '83-'95
Joined the army in sep 87, spent a few years as a Sig with trunk sqn, 1 sig. regiment in enoggera. Decided that living under trees for half the year wasnt the life for me so I serviced transfered to the RAAF , became a rad tech and worked on hercs and 707's at sunny Richmond. Decided to not to sign up for another 6 and discharded in 96.
Cant say I agree with our current white paper, glad I joined when the defence force really was a defensive force and not some 'deputy' to dubbleya's posse of the willing.
peace, luv and mungbeans for all.

Hi surfchickhangten, banora bus
I was with 707s for about a year (486 sqn maintenance) in 93/94 i think, then spent my last year at 503 wing. the only person I know that might still be there is matt horton. Didnt spend enough time there to go on any decent trips. I had a bit of a personality clash with one of the queer trader sgt's. 😠
cheers, chris
