I drove wezley down last weekend to pick-up/look at the double door in my own 74 bus. She's a little ratty, but never really had any trouble with her. Has always been a daily driver for me and we had a understanding. We probably put in nearly 150 kms that day and wezley and I were just keen to get to this controversial yellow van. The deal was done and my rat (loosely termed) sounded great on the return trip, knowing that soon, there would be a new member in the fraternity. Little did we know as wezley and i discussed the finer points of his new factory sun-roofed bus that this would be her last hah-rah. Yesterday my Kombi died and i shed a tear for the end of my 6 year relationship. "It's terminal" I was told " you've got to move on." I will, but I'll do it knowing that she did it for me, her last great drive.... and happy in the knowledge that the baton has been passed on to a brighter, fresher, more exciting friend. What a sacrifice. That's how I'll remember her. Goodbye old friend.
Now has anyone got a type3 squareback or kombi for sale?

'Ah, whatever................'
touching story choo.
I'm going to take a 6 month leave from work and dedicate it to your kombi, should be right in no time.
She knew, beautiful timing. It's as if she was passing on her soul, leaving her physical body here. The dalai larma of kombi's!! hehe
Thanks for your thoughts penguin, wezley
The search begins..........
She probably thought you were purchasing her replacement and spat the dummy! :cussing

No wheel and up on stands - Only running on two cylinders - But...
Still running.
The Dog-O-War will live again.
Thanks for sharing. We have been test driving the NB. Both the Hard top and the Cab. On neither occasion have we been past out house in case the Dog sees. I won't let anyone discuss the NB's near him else I will be left stranded should he catch a glimpse of word that he may be supersceeded. Of couse it will never happen. (Just in case he can read.)
Bronze.
Bronze.
Rathmines, Lake Macquarie, NSW.
I feel guilty now. she died of a broken heart
To 'the bronze'. I know how you feel. Well actually it was a few years ago and I had been on a trip, but i think i may of worked her a little too much because, it was a slow trip home to melbourne from ulladulla on two cylinders, but she made it the trooper!
I would stay on the safe side and not let the dog near the computer or leave any brochures lying around and i appreciate the abreviation to NB. I hope it all works out.
Thanks for your messages
i know what its like friend
within 4 months of my purchase of kikko i was told 'the engine is not worth fixing, and without an engine the car isnt worth much... im sorry'
turned out to be lose head studs
BUT
after repair she pulled a replacement stud. she was to be in a coma for a long time. but lo! the shining light came in the form of greedy 51, an man of infinate knowledge and spare parts, and sold me a replacement it-will-do-for-now engine.
your kombi will be missed. as the loss of all vws should be mourned.
Daniel
a touching and heartfelt story.
if you were going to bury her, you should read that at her eulogy.

in the beginning, the universe was created.
this made alot of people very angry and is widely regarded as a bad move.
Oh the pain of it all.:cry:cry:cry:cry:cry:cry:cry:cry:cry:cry:cry
Have a beer and buy a another toy.
Ever heard of denial? Don't move on, keep the thing going! Just keep it in a corner somewhere, safe and dry, until you can fix her. Surely. Please, rust have mercy!:cry:cry:cry
I understand too you know. I do.
my dub has got sick time after time after time, but i refuse to give up despite the amount of fixit dollars and time being spent. I am continually asked if it is worth it or not and i am beginning to doubt....

early 60s beetle for sale - ex bush basher - spares - $100 or offers
Hmm... Sorry tale.
I heard somewhere old VW's never die, they just get lower and faster. Time to rat it I think! 😉
Andy's on point. Just rat it.
Even at my lowest and knowing it's over I walk outside to where she's parked and still toy with the idea of getting in. Sitting with her again, just to get the feeling back. She could be great again I know it.
We never forget, we just move on.
Candle light vigil tonight with close friends and family. I hope yellow raaf double door can be there-her successor. The torch has been passed on wezley
Once again, thank you everyone for your thoughts and my thoughts also with you.
They all live forever (don't they?!)
drove my 1500 beetle for 14 years and my parents had it for 10 years before that.i just kept doing what i had to to keep it registered until finally itreached the to far gone state and i had to retire her. sad day for me.she still sits in the back yard slowly deteriorating 3 years later.some of her still lives on as replacement parts for my 72 1300.she'll have to go soon though.know exactly how your feeling.the pain dulls but never really goes away:blah

she was a giver and she'll go on in the current 1300.
It will still hurt the day she goes away.
Mine still seems proud out the front, not yet ready to be discarded.
.......................but it is time
Choo, please reconsider your buses future, for the love of God.
Think back to the memories and joy it gave you as she relentlessly pumped out the miles under your trusty navigation. Everybody needs down-time, and your kombi has such an outgoing personality that it’s only fair that she needs some TLC. That 2ltr wasn’t originally hers anyway; it was a different heart and soul. Sort of like when a human body rejects a transplant organ; your kombi is simply crying out to be restored to her original, glorious, martini olive condition.
I remember when I borrowed your bus and was giving a ride to a number of people into the city. When she broke down at the traffic lights I cursed, but it was very thoughtful of her to stop outside my favourite pub. I had a couple of beers, and upon my return she started like clockwork; as if she too had had some amber refreshment.
I guess my point, is that she never really turned her back on you or me in the hard times, and if she had too, she always tried to make the downtime comfortable. At least promise me you will return the favour..
Thanks for your thoughts everyone. Hopefully oneday my bus WILL return to her former glory but in the meantime i was hoping that we could get some stories about your own vw's last days or having to say goodbye to an old friend. where are they now?
Post away.
