Hi all,
This conversation comes up every time we run our show, so I thought that I would ask the question, and in this way we can please as many people as possible.
We open the gates to our show and swap (Held on the 14th of November this year (plug, plug!)) at 9:30am. This not only gives us time to set everything up without getting in the way of the participants who are trying to set up displays and swap sites, but also gives everyone a chance to join in one of the many cruises that come from all over SE Queensland and Northern NSW.
However, it has been said that 9:30am is too late and an opening time closer to 7am would be better... What do you reckon?
Even if you have no intention of attending our show, please feel free to have your say as this may help other show organisers in the future.
It would also be great if you could tell us your reasons for your answer (to help me understand - I'm not a morning person 😀 ).
Thanx,
R 🙂

7am, ya gotta be s!@##@&g me! This means start setting up at 6am, when it is still dark. Plus, if you want to get there at the start and have an hours drive to get there, leave home at 6, up at 5 to pack etc. It's meant to be a fun day, not get up at the crack of dawn, set up in the dark, trip over stuff etc etc.
Who said 7am start would be better?? 9-9:30am sounds perfect to me.
Ain't nothin' like the wind in your hair.
Between 7 & 8 is good, because QLD are a bit behind the times, like an hour, a 9.30 start is 10.30 for NSW people...its just getting on a bit.
Its not like its every week, surely it wont hurt to get up 2 or 3 times a year...
I left for action day at 4.30am, packed the nite before, climbed out of bed, hopped in the yoot and away we go...It gets too hot in the arvo anyway
7 and 8 is good
gives plenty us plenty of time to wake up whats the point in goin to the show with sleep in your eyes?
i reckon 7 or 7 30 is great
Daniel
I reckon 8 would be about perfect, that will give me an hour and a half to set up before PurpleT3 arrives....how does that sound Steve? I'll even have a beer sitting there waiting for you..........:thumb

I think that 7.30 for swap sites to enter and set up and 8.30 to open the gates for the public. We all know how hot it gets there and as there isn't a lot of shade maybe starting that little bit earlier would be better for all. That way we would be out of the sun much earlier and those who have other committments wouldn't be leaving before the presentations.

Where is this up to? Any changes?
i reckon those that say 7, do so as they know its too early for a lot of people, and those that say 9.30 are to lazy to go find them selves a bargain.
find a medium... say 8.15 😀
Simply Cruzin'...
9-930 am would be sweet to allow people with kids to get them sorted and on there way.
hmmm, interesting, keep your votes coming!

It looks like the answer depends on which state you live in, us Southerners prefer a late start while Northerners want an early start to avoid the heat. Plus, if you come later nice people have drinks :beer ready for you. Cheers G-man.

9:30 is a great starting time.
gives those people who are cruising with a group time to get up, meet up and have a chat before leaving.
gives those people who have children to get them ready and get themselves in the right frame of mind.
gives those with procrastinating friends a chance to tip a bucket of water over their heads and get them dressed before the mad dash to the show.
and most importantly...
it gives us night shift workers, who are nocturnal, a few hours sleep before we have to drag our sorry arses out of bed! 😀 😀 😀 😀
in the beginning, the universe was created.
this made alot of people very angry and is widely regarded as a bad move.
...not that I want to change the subject here, but we have an aditional issue at our show - we have organised for the Bar and Bistro (attached to the show location) to be open for lunch, so that everyone can sit down and enjoy a nice cool drink and something to eat. Obviously, they would not want the show to finish before lunch....
I agree with the heat issue, it does get damn hot in the sun during the middle of the day....
I can also see the issue that those with families are dealing with (I imagine that it wouldn't be the easiest thing to get a house full of kids organised and in the car in time to make an early start time....
The polling so far is telling me that a start time around 8:30 or 9am would be most suited to most people...(I'm thinking 9am for reasons I have listed in previous posts!)

Starbuggy, I'm with you on this one ... why should us nocturnal people be punished for our lifestyle? 😀 (OK folks, I'm only joking, there is no need to respond to this post....no....no....arrrrrrgggggghhhh!)

Whats wrong with ya's, it's daylight at 4.30 am up here! start it as early as ya can. Swappers and buyers have no trouble with early starts, PPL who just go for the show like mid morning starts! I recon 7 am for the swap and 8.30/9.00 for the show and shine!

9am start is good.
your show always is in daylight saving times for us.
To me it doesn't matter.....myself I like to sleep in a bit on my weekends, but I realize not everyone has that opinon.
You will never find a happy medium here as everyone has a valid point about it.
Do what time you feel is right for you & the organizers as its them who have to get up earlier than the rest of us to set up.
Everyone else just has to go along with you as its your show.
I learn't you can't please everyone....

An afternoon show would be great! Everyone should be happy with that one. Sleep ins for the workers, Kids should be happy - they have had a play and food before getting into the car, Depending on the time it should be cooler, Everyone gets a sleep in - even the travellers. The only ones who should complain are those that have to work afternoons or night.
Great thought.

That ok, i'll come for a while and go when im over it...Not selling, will just come and have a looksy...still think 7.30/8am is the time to start...but thats just me, only live on this earth for 80ish years, dont want to waste the beautiful daylight hours sleeping...want to be out surfing and driving my VW's, afterall you cant take em with you...
So 10.30 start it is, see you there (NSW EST)
It must be said I rarely go to these shows, and when I do... I go to see the shiny baubles parked in the lot, not buy stuff.

I go for both, always looking for or selling a bargain
Great to see some new cars, but i dont understand about the starting time???
I was there before 9am Queensland time and people were already buying and selling???? I wish you guys would make up your mind about starting times... ????????
OK, I'm going to reply to this here too (for the third time)
It seemed that everyone (or at least many of those that responded) wanted the gates to open earlier than 9:30am, so we (the club members) decided that we would open the gates as soon as we were set-up and ready to go, rather than create a massive queue at the gate and make everyone wait half an hour to get in. It turned out that we were ready to go earlier than even we expected (must be all the practice we have had :duh ), and as there was a few people waiting, the gates were opened.
The end result - a couple of unhappy early birds that weren't early enough and no long wait at the gate at 9:30am for everyone else.
Sorry if it caused you a problem, but it would seem that it wouldn't have mattered which way we went we were going to upset someone. Generally, the feedback I have recieved has been positive so I will consider the show a success.
