Hi all, I need help on this because I don't know that much about non Vw cars. The Boss (wife Marni) want a new car. she said I can have and new VW as a trade off... so I'm happy to help.
She likes to cars, one a Common door '01 and the ofter is a Ford exploder '97. the ford is $4k cheaper. and I would think it would have a higher resale then the holden in 3years. Can anyway one shed some light on this to help me out...........

BTW I'm gettin a Notch :thumb:thumb

hmmmm

personally i am not a fan of suburban 4x4, so i would be going the commodore.

how ever, they do look very comfortalbe and you can fit alot of VW parts in the back with the rear seats down. 😀
some people are like slinky's
they have no useful purpose
but they are fun to watch
when you push them down the stairs

personally id go the mazda 6 but if i had to make a choice between the two id choose the dunnydoor cause of the crash test results and fuel economy

if you're into that type of thing, how about a Forester instead of the Ford.
Everyone I know that has one, loves it.

Go the commorde great car for cruising and good shopping trolley. 4x4 are good but unless you need them, forget them. To expensive to run and repairs, don't ask

Go the Commodore . But I say that because I'm against 4wd's for city driving!

In the words of ex prime-minister Paul Keating "they should be taxed out of the city".....here, here.

go neither. have a look at a mazda tribute (or ford equivalent, except the mazda has more options for less $$$). i have 4 friends and family with them and all rave about them. very comfortable, go like stink and arent ridiculous on fuel. and they are very well priced.

4x4 holds value better than Falcadore sedans.

hmm...

mazda 626's are great cars if you can get one.

we've got one from 1991 that's had a gas conversion and it still runs like a dream. (even with me having learnt to drive in it!) done well over 250,000kms as well.

If you need a big car then buy a new Kombi. Buying a commondore or Falcar only costs your more money in the long run as they devalue faster than any other car make out there. Why buy a 4wd when the Kombi/Transporter/Carravelle is bigger, carries more gear or people or both and it is a VW too.

only from Mazda. big deal. If you're concerned with that sort of cost then you better buy a Hyundai Accent. :puke

commonbore will cost a lot less in petrol. as for towing. we towed 2 kombi's with our 3.0L pajero when we had it, plus 2+tonne of firewood in an unbraked caged 6x4 (BAD mistake). we now have a 3.5L mitsushitty magna and beside worse brakes i reckon we could tow behind that. 4x4s just cost too mush in maintenance and fuel, thats my experience anyway. they are also harder to park, less fun on twisty roads and sharp cornerds and at lights.

I used to sell Fords/ Hondas/ VW's, and the Explorer initially had a fair few problems. The tyres, Firestone, were exploding randomly(hence the name given to them, the Exploder's) and were recalled, EVERY ONE. There was also suspension problems, and a few little bits, but not much else. So after the tyres are replaced, it would be a better bet than the commodore.
They are however a very heavy car, 2.5 - 3 tonnes from memory, so the 6 cylinder will be thirsty, but not bad power considering.

if you need a 4wd, buy a patrol. go anywhere vehicle. if not, get something midsize. commodores go through a fair bit of fuel.

Thank you all for your help

It was between the ford and the holden and nothing else (Her choice) thats why I came here for advice........

The Ford won only because I can tow VW and the race car with it....... the car we are replacing is a VR dunnydoor and it su#ks to tow with.......

And i'm happy about my new toy as well.
