Hope someone can help - I'm struggling to grasp all the various names for genuine/repo parts etc (on Ebay, and everywhere else) - can some one give me the definition of the following....

* Genuine VW (are these still made - and how do ya know they are genuine?)
* Reproductions
* Empi
* EOM
* EOVW

Hopefully this will help a few of us 'newies' out there (or am I the only one!!!!)

genuine has the vw logo on it and can be divided in to more catagories like nos(new old stock) and a few others. repo is companies that are remaking the parts no longer made. empi is the europian motor performance industry and have been around for years making after market stuff for vws. oem is original euro manufaturer.

judging by what Barls said then you can presume that OEVW would be Original Equipment for a VeeDub, presumably either period or genuine certified accessories.

Ok thanks - so only "genuine VW" have a vw logo on it?? Are any original genuine VW parts still made (ie for the older vw's). Hope that isn't a stupid quesion...

Repros - would be the same/similar but no logo??

Are EMPI therefore considered repro parts?? Are these considered the next best thing to genuine??

And OEM/OEVW - meaning orignal manufacturer - is this the same as "genine VW" -or what is the difference??

Sorry, think it's coming together but just want to clarify while I can.....

thanks

If you look in the last VWMA there was an ad for Wolfsburg Auto saying that there was EMPI products that were not really EMPI stuff. I think they were chasing it/them down, so be careful about just buying EMPI because the name is good or it looks cool. It could be real crap, or it could be good... luck of the draw unless you get it from a reputable source.
I don't think you'll find anymore original VW being made for the aircooled market, unless it comes from mexico or brazil, but even then now they don't make aircooled cars anymore. They may just be making some spares for the domestic market. I reckon you'll probably be getting repros more then original. NOS aside okay!!
