Hi
I am looking at a 65 single cab ex PMG ute and would like some opinions about what is a fair price
I have seen pics and there is no evidence of rust in the gates, sills, under body, tray or footwell in the cab.
It comes with spare gates ,doors and a towbar but the paint is really sh#t and the body has a few dents and no rego
Thats about it any advice would be great
Thanks
anywhere up to 6k:P just a guess as gates a worth a bit on there own

let me know if get it as i can get you a PMG jacket cause i work in the GPO and one of the old boys gave me one
it's a faun colour long to the knee
buying a bus or ute with no rust can save you a hell of alot of cash ,hidden suprises, headaches and not to mention time off the road.
i would go over the ute as many times as you can, get a torch look everywhere to be absolutly sure its rust free ,then worry about what its worth. a unrestored rust free ute ,is there one out there??????? 40 year old plus cars will have alittle rust somewhere . sorry dont want to be negative all i am saying is double check.
sorry, but i still dont believe there is such a thing as a rust free split. the ahve been around for 40 yrs. yeah some might be a bit better than others but these things rot from the inside out. so although they might look solid, believe me the rust is there, and it will come out. you can do some preventative measure stuff... but you will end up doing repairs.
as for the dollars. i agree up to 6k. is up to how much you want it, and how good it is, but espesh if it has the gates and more.. if you dont need the second set, they could fetch 1500 or more. the twin cab on ebay has sold. the bidding was a t 4k but it was pulled, and sold off ebay.
pic of mine when i first got it. had no rust holes. looked good. but after driving for 18months... it all appeared.

Will try to catch up with you this weekend Azza. I'll be at the Stocko C'van park Sat night but won't be mobile till Mid Sunday when the wife catches up with me. If you can't catch up with me I will try to see you Sunday on our way back to Dubbo.
I'd say up to 6k too but you know I don't know what I'm talking about.

Ill give you some advice - make sure you keep in contact with the person that you wanted to buy it of as you have had the photos for three days and have not got back to me yet, I do have other people interested.
And to be fair to me I told you I needed the space two weeks ago when you contacted me.
And as for rust free it is as good as I said - fly over and have a look two gunns, you cant comment on what you have not seen for yourself.
This is why I put it in the trading post and paid $90. For an ad instead of posting it on here.
Tell me more country buggy kid...can you email me pics
brucebutcher@email.com
I will post you some soon Bruce as soon as I fix the usb port to camera I took some recent photos with mine when I spent the day getting all the extras (parts) out for the photos for blk56
Could do with a holiday in tassie...

To be fair to Twoguns.
I havent seen an unrestored split that hasnt got rust, the newest are 37 years old and as they were commercial vehicles they were not treated with kid gloves.
It might not appear to have rust but you should check everywhere.
There is always an exception to the rule but I have seen hundreds and have yet to see a rust free one.
But then again I would never pay more than $2000 for any model unrestored split as the cost to restore will run into about $20,000 to do one properly.
And yes I do know what I am talking about as thats what it cost me.
Cheers

Thanks twoguns I misunderstood you sorry
As for 57Kombi how can you say that you would never pay more than $2000. For an unrestored when you have not seen the one in question. As for me I would rather see the unrestored one to know what you are buying
And yes I do know what I am talking about as I have seen what horrors lie beneath some of the restored ones.
Cheers
Rick
I said that because I would not pay more that $2000 for ANY unrestored bus, because I know how much it will cost to restore one. And by now unrestord ones will need some work.
Obviously I am not including deluxes,
I would pay more for a restored one but I would have to check it out I am not an idiot.
I still say that there is no unrestored rust free buses around, especially utes, as they were not looked after like say micro-buses.
I will just add this.
How many people on this forum have seen an unrestored split bus of any kind that had NO rust, I dont mean a few little bubbles or one outrigger that need replacing, I mean NO RUST AT ALL
This is my opinion , you are entitled to yours.
Cheers

Rare but true, not a good pic as I took a scan of a photo.

Thanks for your opinions
Sorry I did not intend to start any arguments just thought some other opinions would not hurt as I have never owned a split before
I stand by my comments as frog above has proved by saying surface rust in the tray, it is still rust ,.
I have never seen a rust free unrestored split.
Cheers
Dave
i guess if you are dealing with these cars on a daily basis they would have to turn up sooner or later.
i like to read volksworld ,in that mag there is at least 50 unrestored type 2s that are rust free for sale in every months issue and thats in the uk (LOL). i supose thats why a schofields and creative engineering are making all these repo panels and they sell before they can make them (LOL)
personally if i had the cash to think about buying a type 2 that is rust free and original i would pay alot more for it than a simalar condition restored bus. i say if it is original and rott free you are sreaks ahead of most people who venture down the road of the type 2.
if i had the cash id be on a plane yesterday
