heres my trip report to stockton. i say 'to' rather than 'at'. but take a minute, if youre interested and follow me.
it started the month before hand fitting my lift kit, so that i would be able to get more height with out fear of breaking a fender. then i put in 'thumper', which is a neat 1640 with nice cam, so that my propulsion for those jumps was right. tidied up a few other things and i am sorted.
so we all know stockton is on this weekend. all thought it was gonna be wet. well i woke at 6am and looked out side, and could not stop grinning. birds were chirpin and not a cloud inhte sky. thought 'ripper, this is gonna be a great day' so i packed my cloths for the weekend. had a cuppa, went and got a few tools together. this comprised of a 13,15,17,19mm spanners, a shifter, and philips and flat screw drivers. pretty basic but all i need. then made sure the snatch strap was inthe car. loaded up but forgot the pantyhose. so rummaged thru the ladies drawer ( sorry babe), and found a pair. i cut the legs off and used the top bit to cover the carbie and tied it off. now this is where it all starts. i thought to myself where do i put the off cuts. i decided to use one as the 'tool bag', and i put the other inside also. got a plastic bag, as i was worried about the weather turning and put the 1 litre of spare oil in the bag. so by 6.30 i am off.

head down teh highway, all sweet.... until jsut he other side of bulledelah. some 'p' plater doing an all nighter from qld decides he ( we assume this) has had enough of corners and generally driving all together, so he drives straight on into a north bound semi. totally disintegrated the car. they only find two bits of 'him'. all this about 300m in front of me. so here we are stuck. only real route, apparently, is to go back to nabiac, out to glouscester, then south. now although i asked many people, no one came up with anything else. it was decided that it would only be about 1 1/2 hours so many waited. but this then started to drag out. finally a bloke came up to me and said 'you know that thing could get down old inn rd. its jsut over there. a few creak crossings and a bit of rough, and probably boggy stuff, but you should be sweet. i said of course, and im off.

so on this road, which was sweet as for the buggy, i am cruising. its more a little dirt rally track wiht rises and falls twists and turns and the odd oncoming 4wd doing the same from the south. anyway went thru a big crossing. wouldve been about 2foot deep and 30 - 40 feet accross, then up over this rise only to find real good chopped up bogg. i was fine but there was this falcon up ahead not doing so great. they were doing a lot of tyre spinning and digging but not going far. anyway i stopped and suggested i give em a bit of a tow out. was funny and fun seeing this little 500kb bright yellow beach buggy pulling a big el burgandy falcon with hubby doing his darndest to get himself going. anyway after a bit of tigging, they were free and i was off. not far mind you, as a little further down was a narrow pass with embankments either side and a 4wd with caravan in tow in the middle nose to nose with me. i thouhg 'i cruisin', ill just back it up the embankment a little and let em thru and ill be off b4 they are bogged. so i did. slight shunt to the rear nudge and up the embankment i ent. they went thru smiling and shouting what a beast. i grinned and set off again, determined to get to stockton, albeit two hours late. anyway out the other side back onto the highway pasing all the traffic with a grin... then a few minuteslater it happened.

the pressure gauage dropped, and then shortly after the oil light went off. whats going on here i thought. so pull over and hop out to look. fk! the nudge bar had belted the external oil filter thats on the motor, and id sprung a leak. a trail for miles.... so i started thinking. i got the plastic bag and one of those off cut stockings and wrapped it up. i topped in the only litre of oil i had, and decided on a plan. ended up getting to nerong before the oil light was on again and i was out of oil. pulled in and started sourcing help. turns out there is a vw nutter in nerong. unfortunately for me he wasnt home this weekend. (probably down at stocko, whoooping it up!) but another bloke had some oil. so i tried reparing the crack with some silican and duck tape. was no good the oil would soak thru before it had a chance to cure. anyway this went on for about two hours. i also noticed i had ripped out part of the fron sway bar form its n=mount. my day was bery quickly turning sour. finally a bloke comes along and says i got one of them filters. its a bit different, its for me nissan. i said jsut give it to me and let me try it. he did, and it sorta fitted. enough for me to get back to bulledelah, to get more oil and then home.

i wouldve kept goin after all this, but i was worried about eh sway bar, the nissan filter (u can see it on the last pic), and the fact my rear bars not on. it protects my mufflers as they are below the engine. i had visions of me making it to stockton, then tearing out to the beach to find the guys, only to tear a muffler off on the first dune. thought better to take my coat and head home now.

gotta say, though if youve a 4wd and your tripping near bulledelah, take a moment and tear up old inn rd. shes a ripper.

Hey Mate. Sorry to hear that you had such a crap day trying to join us on the dunes. We missed you being there. We would have had a record 4 J&S's on the dunes at the same time !!!!

Don't want to rub it in so don't take this the wrong way, but it was probably the best weekend we have ever had there. Great weather, losts of cars, very few breakdowns, no serious damage to anycars or anyone, hard sand and great company. Sorry you missed it - I'm sure you'll be right for next time !!

Mark.

no offence.... something has got to cull the population. if people/ authorities really gave a shit, then we would have approved drive training, and people would undertake advanced driving courses...

always loved those stickers ( baby on board!) that parents get when they have a newborn. as if its supposed to protect them. yet here they are still driving around like the same dim wits they were before, with their 'so called special cargo' on board. then when the grow up, the same dim wits pass their limited knowledge to their child, thinking they are doing right, but not realising times have changed and their child is capable of obtaining vehicles with far greater power.
i was on the highway and this car went pass me and i was doing 115-120 in my buggy.

Awwwh, What a nice guy! You can come again 😉

There will be other weekends Wes. Yeah it would have been great you being there. 4 J&S', Imagine that. I was surprised there wasn't at least one Baja with us for the weekend. Will have to do somthing about that next time :P.

Was a great weekend, and yes, apart from the great company the dunes were superb. A little bright at times with the 'White Out' but after the rain there were plenty of different dune shapes to choose from.

Catch ya next time.
