ok, i think i am about to get my hands on a splitty camper. dont yet know what year, what condition or what brand conversion (fingers crossed for a westy). thing is i already have one camper on the go, so unless this is something amazing i will probably be selling it on in order to pay for more work on my camper. i believe it is rough (dont know how bad. will probably be able to fill in with all details tomorrow. chances are my mate will bring it to town for me in the next couple of weeks (whilst i am away) and i will bring it to DOVW on the 28th, so anyone who is interested in buying a split camper at a reasonable price you will probably get a chance at DOVW.

ok, time for the facts:
*just been for a look, and its a 63 model.
*bottom 2 inches is bubbling all the way around (very bad under barn doors, minor around bottom of doorskin, bottom of front panel) but what i can see of the chassis looks solid, no holes in the wheel arches or anything (jacking points all look fine).
*has all original exterior trim except one headlight and rear bumper (barndoors, locks, everything still attached and in good nic)
*cabin looks complete, includes fuel guage, but radio is missing, dash is UNCUT, passenger seat upholstery has disintegrated
*engine i am told is a 1300, was fine when parked (driven down from QLD!)
*roof looks a little bubbly around the seam and rust is evident around the rear hatch (probably due to the broken back window), A-pilliars are bubbling, and rear guards have been cut (note, all rear guard steel is still there, has just been cut and bent a bit, could be welded back down flat), but looking down the sides the panels look perfectly straight.
*camper roof is infact a high-roof conversion, about 3/4 length (starts behind the cabin) has embossed windows (not cut) not sure if it is tin or f/glass, is rivetted on.
*inside rear is mixture of botched camper interior jobs, probably not much salveagable in there.
*note this car was a registered driver when it was parked 8 or so years ago
*as i said it was driven there, so even if you dont want to save this rare high-top it would probably make a great donor for another bus.
what i need to know in the next 24 hours is whether it is worth my while to get it. removing it from the backyard will be quite a process (decking and garage have been built since it was 'installed'. i need a honest responce from as many people as possible. due to the long drive and challenge of getting it out, would it be worth say around 2g to someone. unless there is a great liklihood that someone will be willing to pay that sort of money for it i cannot justify removing the fence and modifying the carport what would be necessary in order to get it our of its current home.
any opinions welcome
cheers
Ryan

go on doit! you know you want to. :thumb
hey. if you dont want it and jsut want to sell it on, then why not jsut pass the info on for someone who is seriously interested in it for themselves, and let them get it... why get into for a few bucks off a fellow dubber, when instead you could help a fellow dubber get into one at a 'good' price.
i know of a 67 up here for 250 bucks if you wanna get it. is rusty but who knows.

twoguns, i am not in it for a quid. the guy who owns it is working for my friend, if i get the car it will not be for free, and getting it out from where it is is going to take up a whole day as well as costing quite a bit in repairs (will have to come out by remoing my friends fnce and part of his carport!). you must understand that i am just a student, so i cant afford to cop the costs of the work to get it from where it is now without knowing that i can get my money back for the time and effort. if i knew that it was worth nothing to anyone i would happily offer the owners details, but theres not much point to that when no-one but me can get it out of the yard. as much as i want to save the split, i need to know that it is viable, i simply cant afford to do all of this work then have to cover costs out of my own pocket when nobody buys the car.
i hope now that you better understand my situation and why i am asking this now. if i was in it for money i would just have brought it on the day and not told you anything else, but instead i am on here being honest in the attempt to save a split.

ok, let me try this in a different way. if anyone can tell me what they think a bus of this type in this condition is worth, then i will try to remove it, but if it costs more to remove then i will get for it i will leave it.
cmon guys, whats a restorable 63 camper worth?

maybe get some pics, and post it that way. you might generate interest. and if no luck maybe someone might be interested in moving it themselves, with you as a lead in.
