Hey there,
I was just thinking about Brazilian or South American VW's and was wondering is there anyone out there in Australia who's had experience with them or has bothered to import one. What are the cost's, pros and cons of having one. I don't really want one I just think it would be great to see a 1998 model Bay window. Does anyone have any shots of one. I've heard there are quality/construction issues with these cars.
Cool, thanks,
Choo
Check out copies of Ultra VW or Volksworld as they are still selling them in England and they advertise in the mags
Cheers

I remember reading an article about a guy who imported one to the UK and then had it converted to a camper. Cost a fortune. For the same money, he could have had one whittled from a block of steel!
They sell them at authorised dealers in the U.K. not bad prices around $30k
Cheers

I think I heard that it would be hard to register these over here because they are considered new cars but do not conform to new car safety standards.
I could be wrong about this though.
Probably the same as the 2004 model old beetle. As the car is plated as a 2004 model it must comply to 2004 ADR's, which it doesn't. I think just importing these into the country is a hassle.
Ain't nothin' like the wind in your hair.
you could go an older 'fleetliner'. these are 70s split screen buses. they have a moulded logo on front as well as other perculiar and exclusive features. still finding one resonable is the challenge, but it would be unique...
here is a pic of one.
