Just thought I'd share my joy in finally getting the RWC for the black 68 squareback I bought a couple of months ago. To be honest, the car was always in pretty good nick, but apart from a few logical issues like a couple of tie rod ends, a drag link rod, a steering damper and some rear nrake shoes, the RWC tester was an absolute arsehole on a couple of really minor issues.
(1) Seats - the seats had only minor play in them (as if any 35 year old car seat wouldnt) The guy wasnt satisfied with them, and I replaced them with another pair of seats which had half the play, but he still wasnt satisifed. (claimed they were very dangerous...couldnt see how though)
(2) A very minor oil leak (again..which aircooled VW doesnt leak oil)
Anyway, after pulling the engine out twice, the damn thing still leaks a drop or two of oil (probably no better than when I first bought it!) however the RWC guy finally agreed to issue the certificate. I know that there are huge penalties for issuing RWC's on pieces of crap, but I have seen real POS cars pass RWC tests with flying colours, and the 2 issues with mine were really superficial.
Anyway, I'm going to Vicroads tomorrow to transfer the car and reg into my name and its all go. Will post some pics of the beast soon when I get a chance.
