hey,
I am looking to buy a MIG welder sometime in the next few weeks. what do you think of this one?

seems pretty cheap? Anyone have any reccomendations? Need a 10amp plug, mainly for panel and fabrication work. Budget about $800 tops.

depends what you want it for mate....its a bit weak for anything serious but prob ok for panel work....then again i`ve allways found the lower powered migs very hard to set up, if your settings are not right, nothing works and 10 amps is a standard house plug..15 would be a minum in my shed but mabey thats just me.
i saw an inverter welder at boc gasses in maroochydore lately that is very light and can do stick or scratch tig welding...if you can do tig it would be heaps better for panels and around $1000...thats my 2 cents, good luck

hmmm is it copper cored and fan cooled? probably not at that price but they are things I would be looking for. From my experience a good second hand unit is often better value that an under spec ed new unit. Also keep in mind that if you go normal wire a bottle of gas will cost you about 160 a year with rental or you can go gas-less wire but I personally don't like it. If it were me I'd be looking for a second hand liquid ark unit.
Hi
I use a mini mig for panel, exhaust and light fabrication stuff, its been fine for 8 years or so, it was used on my old bug to make just about everthing and a lot of things on leigh59s bug. The gas bottle rental is a killer. Is toolex a well known brand? Stick with a well known brand.

You would have to check out its duty cycle as well as I bet it would be pretty low. The brand name welders generally are a lot better but it still comes down to mostly welding ability and if the welder is big enough for the job you are doing. That size should be fine for panel steel and should run a 6mm fillet when it is flat out. If it is something you will only use once or twice a year then it is possible a cheapy would do teh job but if you think you will use it more and more as you get better with it then buy as good and as big as you can afford.
.
this will be my first MIG. havent actually used an arc welder before but I can Oxy weld. Mainly doing panel work right now, and possibly some fabrication for the car using angles, flats etc. maybe some exhaust stuff too.
Is CIGweld any good?

Hi,
I have a welder I'm looking to sell, It's a UEC SIP 120 I believe but will check to be sure. Good for doing light work (panels etc) Is similar to the one you are looking at with some extra accesories (stand, guages, wire, tips, shields) etc. $750 worth of value, I'm thinking I'll sell it for 1/2 price so $375.
I'm at work at the moment and don't have any pictures but will post some photos and a better description in a new thread tonight.
Unfortunately it's in brisbane so not much use to you, but someone else may be interested so I thought I'd mention it here.

'Ah, whatever................'
if u only gunna use it 4 a little bit why not rent one? would probably work out cheaper, or 4 quailty find soe1 on here that does fabrication maybe they'd do it 4 a slab
SIP Coppermate is a good welder with copper core. Ideal for panel work and light fabrication with RHS and flat steel up to 4mm. Most of the panel beaters I know that have a welder at home are getting them now.
You are not building ships are you?
I bought a similar one to this and its ok but I wish Id bought a better one. Its definatly not as easy to use as more expensive units.
looks like mine but a different colour mines an sip and it does panelwork ok at work i use a boc mig which is great(its a kempi in disguise)😎
