I'm trying to track the year model and type for a couple of speedo's I've got. I've tried searching a number of sites, but cannot get a definite answer.

The first is numbered 141 957 023 A [90MPH VDO] - I think this is telling me that it is for a 1971 Karmann ghia, with the 023 designating MPH, and it is an import.

The second is numbered 111 957 023 A [80MPH VDO Australia] - I think this is telling me that it is for a 1971 Beetle, again with the 023 designating MPH, but it is Australian made.

Can anyone confirm this or guide me to a site with the relevant detail?

Thanks....

I thought ALL vw speedos had month and year of manufacture stamped on the back.

i.e 05/57

meaning May 1957, I know all of the split ones I've seen have.

Cheers

Squizz

The 80mph is for Beetle up to about 61 when they changed to 40hp engine and went toa 90mph speedo, nothing special about either of them unless they have a trip meter built into them.

And they will have a month year date stamped on the back
I read it on FACEBOOK so it must be true

Thanks Dave and Dave. I can't find a date stamp on either - either I'm going blind or just not looking hard enough. Not that there's much to look at on the back.
