How much Nulon do you need per tank?

Octane booster is also the go for running realy high boost if you have a turbo. I have heard that this is how some of the dyno Queen cars run such high numbers but I think they now are regulating how much boost aditive you are allowed to run in the proper dyno comps.

Now I may have it totally wrong but I thought the higher the octane the lower the explosive value?? it is just that you could run higher compresion, bigger boost and more advance on your timing??????????????

octane number is just a ratio of two chemicals (cant remember the names) which gives a value of knock resistance.

pasted from a website:

Definition: A value used to indicate the resistance of a motor fuel to knock. Octane numbers are based on a scale on which isooctane is 100 (minimal knock) and heptane is 0 (bad knock).

Also Known As: Octane Rating

Example: A gasoline with an octane number of 92 has the same knock as a mixture of 92% isooctane and 8% heptane

Hi

There is huge fine for using Avgas in a street car unless you have a permit, it contains lead. Its also not all its cracked up to be according to the Berg files.

we used to do it in a mates 89 supra half avgas and half normal fuel.. and a few mothballs for that extra octane boost. It went really really well.. and the car is still running fine these days... i personally would never do it to my car but hey it was funny at the time.

Maybe it is just something the servos are doing around here but in my chev motor which has about 11:1 compresion I can run shell premium with little pinging but not BP as it pings it head off.

Nope no ethonol but when they did trial it my chev loved it. When I was working at an ethonol plant we made our own brew and it was great we ran the work cars on it for about 6 years with no adverse effects as long as you keep it below 10%

As for Avgas when you travel the gunbarrel highway (still not sure why they call it a highway mabe a goat track) you can only by Avgas or diesel from places like the Warburton Roadhouse and Warakurna Roadhouse. This is made legal for them to sell as a fuel to try to stop petrol sniffing in the area.

reason why i was asking ive seen in some areas BP advertising they have Ultimate and to get to the pump its just Premium:cussing

My mates sister did some tests (petro engineer) and found that Ultimate had a higher Octane rating vs Optimax - optimax was a more dense fuel than ultimate

ill see if i can find the figures 😉

Motorsport 103,
will support up to 12.5:1 compression, has a 3 - 8% power gain over Av Gas, is rated at 107.5 Ron (octane) and has a spec gravity of .743, similar to pump gas. VP Fuels mentioned to me about government regulation to lower PULP octane to 89 - 91 by 2005. The web site he said it was on is http://www.ea.gov.au but I couldn't find anything about it, maybe you guys might have better luck. He says Motorsport 103 was used at the Summernats in Horsepower Heroes recently. Maybe this is getting off the track a bit, the original question asked was Synergy or Optimax and we have already established the answer as neither, that BP Ultimate is the best. The suggestion is, Ultimate is straight from the pump @ 98, the others are blended with differrent %'s of Ethanol etc, to get their octane rating.

ELF 124, it is purely Racing Fuel and not street legal as best as I can find out at present. Get caught with it in your car on the street and cop the fine, $110,000.00 for the user and $500,000.00 to the supplier. ELF 124 is about $8/l.

Motorsport 103 is street legal.

The testing was to analyse the Density, Benzine content, Sulphur content, Distillation, Driveability index, Copper Corrosion, Final Boiling Point etc. Will give some idea and compare to regular ULP.

MY OCTANE TESTS:

BP Ultimate 98 Tested at 98.8

Mobil Synergy 8000 Tested at 98.5

Shell Optimax Tested at 98.3

Both BP and Mobil have less than 0.4% Benzine and Sulphur content and falls well below the max driveability index and Shell has over 3.0% and exceeds the max allowable index and if it stays as is will be illegal when the driveability index is legislated later this year.

Results: (short form)

SHELL OPTIMAX
Under it's present formulation, it will not pass the drivability index set down by the EPA for fossil fuels, that will become law sometime in 2003 (1 July) at a guess and therefore will be illegal to sell. Also, it contains over 4% Benzine & Sulphur and tested at 98.3 octane (RON). So if you want to breath all of this poop go for it, we will all come and visit you in La La Land.
For Optimax to meet the drivability index, the company must spend MULTI MEGA MILLIONS of DOLLARS on their refinery to allow them to crack LOW SULPHUR crude oils.

MOBIL SYNERGY 8000
Contains less than 0.4% Benzine & Sulphur, tested at 98.5 octane (RON) and complies with the drivability index NOW!! as is. A much cleaner, more environmentally friendly fossil fuel.

BP ULTIMATE
Contains similar quantities of Benzine & Sulphur to Mobil and tested at 98.8 octane (RON) and also complies.
GETS MY VOTE as NUMBER1.

"G" EVOLUTION
After some lengthy discussion and research, this fuel from Traffigura compares favourably with both BP Ultimate & MOBIL Synergy 8000 in all aspects. What you must decide is this, Evolution is not manufacture here, it is produced in Singapore and transported here via tanker and stored in Melbourne.

Ok so now i am curious if this is how shell optimax was before july 2003 what have they now done to make it comply with the laws or did the laws never come into effect.
I also wonder if the Bp here is just selling a lower grade premium then teh ultimate as it definately has the stickers etc on the pump to say it is ultimate

i found running ultimate and only ultimate in my VS commondore got fantastic performance.. once got to sydney from a bit north of lismore on one tank.. so that's roughly 800kms for 69 litres in a V6. And the power difference is so noticable that any nitwit could pick it.
