Hi there
We were awarded 2nd place for our category - 1968 and up beetle - standard!!
It was our first official VW event, and never entered 'Rube' before - so we were thrilled - naturally.
We don't have a digital camera so unable to post any pics of her (and still havent posted any of her on this form yet!!). She was the moss green beetle parked on the LEFT as soon as you came out of the pavillion area - did anyone get any pics of it (she was a bit on her lonesome there - not in with the 'groups' of vw's).
Anyway, had a great day checking out everyone's vw's - I also found it funny knowing that most victorian aussieveedubbers would be there - but wouldn't know who you were (apart from a couple I have met).
Our neighbours came with us as they were looking for a beetle to buy - and they found one. Ended up celebrating at Yerring Farm Winery (I think it was) - a perfect ending to a really great day.

Cool cb,
hope someone got a shot of your bug(actually the way the folk here photo things, you will probably have a stack) and welcome to your neighbours... do they know what they have gotten themsleves in for?????
'Ah, whatever................'
I ended up getting 2nd place for Best Modified Karmann Ghia. I was pretty happy with that, but I was a little disapointed with the 2 oldie judges I had who didn't seem to have any idea about custom ghias, they just pointed and said whats that?
Oh well better luck next time, I guess I've just got more insentive for next time. It was a great day out anyway.
I also scored a flying VW hood emblem for 20 bucks. I thought that was pretty cool.
Who got car of the show, I'm guessing it was Wayne and Lisa Penrose with their cab. Sweeeeeeeeeeeeet Ride.
I think Wayne and Lisa won Best Display, best engine bay, and Car of the Show. There might have been another prize in there somewhere too.
Picked up 3rd place for pre 67 standard Kombi class.
Welldone Matt. She looked good too.
Bugger,
Sounds like it was a good day for all then. I guess you aren't gong to talk to your mate about making some flying VW emblems then.
Hey Aman, about that one you have for sale........

Where running the first test batch on saturday, I'll keep you all posted.
did anyone get a flick off the matt black phatlooker at the enrance if you did be as kind to post one for us.
its great to be back home !! a very big thankyou to all involved in 'day of the VW' Victoria . the hospitality and attitude of the VW enthusiests down there is far better than anywhere I have seen . an awsome display of a wide variety of VW's . a venue that was just superb and canteen facilities 2nd to none . Lisa & I won best custom engine , best custom beetle , best displayed vehicle and top car of show . It took us 11 hours to get there in the heat with the dual-cab running a little hot towing the enclosed trailer .
The trip home a little more exciting with the dual-cab running out of fuel 15k's before Benalla . pumped 4 litres from the cabrio to get us to the next stop ( thank god for electric fuel pumps ) . Then at 8.30pm just 1km before
Wodonga , the trailer blows the left front tyre which tears off the guard moulding , damages the inner guard and side sheeting , and smashes off the side clearance lamp which then blows the fuse and all the lights go out . managed to change the tyre in the dark and find our way to a motel .
The drive home today was slow but no incidents . The cabrio didn't suffer any damage .

hypo-vw is the mango coloured cab.
the drag car belongs to his brother.
and i second what Wayne has said, it would have to be one of, if not the best car show that i have attended.
The 11 and a half hour trip from Nowra was well worth it, and the back of a beetle is supeisingly comfortable. Slept in there twice (way there and back).
Though did learn not to stop at truck stops that have fridge vans parked at them. Bloody things kept Dave Becker and I awake most of friday night on the way down.
But a big thankyou to all the members that put on DOVW from all the members of Shoalhaven VW that attended.
Oh we also stopped on the way home to help out a Porsche 356 spyder who blew his fanbelt on his way back to sydney.
some people are like slinky's
they have no useful purpose
but they are fun to watch
when you push them down the stairs

yeh the mango coloured cabriolet is mine but the drag car is my brother Rod . I also heard that Rod was telling a few people that the cab was painted by Penrose Motors and this is not true . The only way to get a good job done with no hassles is not to deal with relatives . Other family members may think that they can restore VW's but at WAYNE PENROSE VOLKSWAGEN we dont just talk about it , we do it and show it off .

still no pics of Rube...:cry
no one to blame but ourselves for not having a digi camera :duh
I think she was too alone and tucked away next to some big monster of a 4wd - oh well - when we get some pics developed (like they used to do in the good ol' days) - you'll all get to see her...
