I have been told that you can fit later model doors on a 57 oval, apparently you just have to weld up the extra hole for the handle. Also been told that there's something different with the door stay but not sure what it is. Apart from these two differences are the doors exactly the same EG door card shape and size and if so until what year? Thanks in advance.
I think all pre67 doors have the same exterior dimensions. 1960 and later doors have a different recess for the exterior handle, as they had teh push buttons rather than the fridge door types. The 1960 and later doors have a hole in front of the handle recess because the push button handle slips into that bit.
The door stays on pre '60 (not sure of year it changed) are rods which are circular in profile whereas on my '63 they are rectangular in profile.
Other than that I dont think there are any differences. The doorpanels are the same dimensions to 67 for aussie beetles
Thanks for that info Jon. So the handle scoop is different too. Do you mean where your fingers go in or the part behind where the handle sit in? I wasn't aware of that.
The difference is the check Strap early doors have a round type strap n the later ones have a flat wide strap.
Also the early doors have chrome 1/4 window surrounds and front window channel uprights. The early doors also have an alloy out window scrapper surround where as the later doors are all stainless steel parts
