Ive been thinking about what to do about 6volts and fluted headlights and found a company in Adelaide that does halogen grafts onto old stock headlight bulb bases. Does anyone have these in their VW? Any comments about these? Know the company?

...er...grafts? Define 'grafts'.

I run the correct 'euro' base 6 volt Halogen bulbs in my '63 Bug - they just fit straight into the headlight without the need for any mods. Work much better than the old style bulbs...

Not the easiest bulbs to find but there is a place in Adelade that can supply them... is this what you are planning to do?

That sounds like the place Ratty. How much did you pay for them and what wattages are available high low split? Thanks very much

I knew You could buy 6 volt Quartz Halogen Bulbs to suit early Beetles a few years back but I don't know who sold them..

I know a fellow in the US makes his own, buys a 6 volt Quartz halogen bulb and changes the base over...

Maybe He didn't try hard enough to fins the corrrect ones...
they must be getting harder to find these days as 6 volts is really dead these days... VWs were the last of the 6 volters..

UK cars had 12 volts very early in the piece , and so did most of the USA... early 50s...

OK, just had a search around the net and found the suppliers web site: http://www.classicandvintagebulbs.com/index.html

If you look at the 'headlight bulbs' page, the bulbs to suit the VW's are listed at the bottom. It's the ones with the P45t base.

I had them send me a price list early this year and the 6 volt P45t headlight bulbs to suit my '63 bug were $25 each. I would recommend that you request their catalogue so that you can check the prices for yourself as it has been almost a year....

Well worth the money if you drive the car at night!
