Electronic ignition

Has anyone got some advise which is the best to go for the mr bug empi style electronic ignition with a bosch blue coil or a gt 40 electronic kit.Or if there is better out there please do tell. cheers D

if 12volt:
if you have a 009 get the compufire or empi.

I’ve had a compufire module installed for 3 years now. Its good. The empi accufire looks like the same thing. For a stock distributor try a pertronix.

Stock (internal ballast) coil works fine with most. IMO Spend the extra money on NGK iridium plugs.

if 6volt:
maybe get an ignition amplifier or cdi. i don't know

cheers man its a 12 volt i will go the empi accufire along with a bosch blue coil.I have a 009.thanks again

I have personally tried all 3 of the above mentioned electronic conversion kits and have found the Pertronix ignitor the be far better than any of the others . The Pertronix ignitor kit is available for both standard distributors and the 009 distributor . Wayne Penrose VW at Wollongong carries both in stock . Costs $225 which is a bit dearer than the comufire and the accufire , but from practical experience you only get what you pay for . used with a bosch gt-40 coil it is ultra-reliable . I currently use them on the 62' type-4 powered sports sedan , mango dreams' 2 litre type-4 turbo , 77' dual-cab type-4 2.5 litre and the 1642cc speedway engine . Faultless performance tested to 9000rpm .:bounce

I got a Pertronix from Retro Rockets in the US. Cost under $150 air mail IIRC. With the 009 you have the choice of the standard Pertronix or the "Ignitor II" which has all these amazing extra benefits! Check them out out:
