at buying a 73 convertible
If you mean achop top its proberally been lost of taken off over the years.

The 73 models all have an alloy compliance plate its riveted on the front beaver panel inside the bonnet
I read it on FACEBOOK so it must be true

It is possible(In Qld at least) to have a Compliance plate replaced. If you can prove what happened to it?

Check with your state Transport Dept.

If the Car is not yours yet, maybe consider a different car or convince the seller to have the plate replaced before buying it.

Working in the Motor industry, its a big no no to buy a car without a compliance plate, Its hell to on sell.

i have just been through this

I bought a 75 that didnt have a compliance plate. They tok it off to restore the car and spray under neath the plate. They just lost it !!!

They passed the car on a Blue slip but they failed it on a Unregistered Vehicle - No Compliance Plate form.
You needed to tick -
1 Vehicle Make
2 Year model or date of manufacture
3 Vin Number

These had to be provided in 2 colums
1 Detail from vehicle
2 Detail from acceptable documentation

They failed me on Date of Manufacture from the vehicle. I was told i had to send "suitable information" of to RTA Vehicle Standard Section.
I rang them up and they were not helpful. They said you just keep sending and i will tell you when to stop. Wouldnt give me a phone number or name of who i could talk to.

I went back and re-read the Unregistered Vehicle - No Compliance Plate form (as i had never seen one before) At the top it said " date of manufacture can be detrmined from VIN number" I rang back to the blue slip guy and said cant we just tick it cause we can get the info of the VIN. He said " I dont know haw to read them"
I down loaded from a website how to read the VIN and he passed it - phew!!

One step out of the way

Then i had to go to the RTA to book in for a VIIU(?) inspection.

I turned up to the RTA and said i wanted an insection

They said "why?" - how the heel do I know. Never done this before??? I want it cause the blue slip man said i needed one!

The RTA was certain i didnt?
I stopped argueing and agreed when i realised alls he wanted to do was give me some rego plates

So - in a nut shell, it aint THAT hard.... but it does depend on what side of the bed the people get out of.
In the end mine was a piece of piss, but it could have easily have turned into a nightmare if i had to PROVE the date of manufacture.

Now i hope this is what you are after - if you are talking engineering papers cause it is a chop top, I cant help you

By the way - welcome

TTFN

Barry

PS
you cant get a compliance plate replace in NSW

There are many Books on VWs that show the dates made in relation to the chassis numbers....
otherwise You can print them out from websites....

Its probably illegal to remove a compliance plate...
If NOT, it should be.....

Is this Beetle a real "Karmann made" Convertible or is it one that has been done locally....

Does a locally made convertible have to be inspected by an Engineer... ??

Hmmm - What a ball of rubber bands!

I like the analogy that it all depends on what side of the bed people gut up out of in the morning. How much of what we do depends on that these days.

how did you find THAT page
From what i understand, as long as i keep it roadworthy, then ill be right to get it registered with no plate ... :jesus

That is the way i read it too.

The main problem i had was that it was registered in Canberra.

Still reckon if i had turned up on a Monday instead of Tuesday things would have been real different

Good luck
