today i spent alittle time on the phone calling around all the vw places i could think of looking for a second hand starter ,most places wanted an exchange unit plus around $170 to $180 dollars untill i found one place that tested one in front of me checked it out and gave it to me for $50 i left feeling like both parties were happy with the sale and now life will go on without feeling like i paid to much for something , dont know why i felt like sharing this but anyway theres my story for the day

You should know by now,
If its VW add $100 to each item, thats what the shops usually do.

The best place for a Sydney person to get cheap VW parts is.......Melbourne!
We pay heaps too much for stuff here, just like everything else.
You need to shop around, it's the same when buying a car, some people are trying to cash in and others sell for what it's really worth.
Anybody got an old karmann ghia I can chop up? (just kidding)

i guess that i am supprised to get a good one for $50 when this one place wanted $170 plus my 2 6v starter motors that have nothing wrong with them in exchange , how much is a good 6v starter worth anyway?
i got my last one for 50 bucks form my mates. works a treat, too.

some melbourne places are cheaper but some are not compared to other.

Same old story. The established shops think they have a captive market but times are changing comrade.
It is these shops that will keep Volkswagens in the dark ages, where they want them, a road to nowhere.
My 6V starter cost me $190 to have it fully reconditioned by a reputable vw mechanic. I was very happy with his work however have never needed it since the rebuild....so if anyone wants an unused reconditioned 6V starter....I have one for sale :thumb
yep dark ages i agree , so how much is a good second hand 6v starter worth , just curious really how much it would have cost me including 2 6v starters with nothing wrong with them plus $170, all the shop would have done is sold them on again one is even nicely resprayed with gloss enamel black
