Ok I know this has nothing to do with vw. Could do with some help.. One of the kids wants an xbox and the other wants a Ps2... We need info from anyone who knows anything about this kinda stuff which one is the best buy etc etc. Thanks Mrs Spook

Well, id don't own either, i'm a PC person. PS2 is the better choice in my opinion - more games, and generally that CAN mean lower prices. Plus its now the size of a matchbox (maybe exagerating a bit). The X-box has some good games too, but most of them are also on PS2.
I think they're about the same price too, right?
Well I am not much help either but I bought my nephew a PS2 and have had no complaints yet 🙂 just subtle hints on what good games are coming out🙂

xbox. decent games (tho ps2 gets gt4), internal hard drive (which you can change) and you can store music on there. get the remote and you can play DVD, but so can ps2

Xbox is easier to mod. As hinted at before bigger hard drive to store........
And the local video store has lots of games.
However GT4 will be available for the PS2. The new slimline PS2's cant be modded just yet. Even if you dont intend modding either console the xbox has it for me as you can store media files on the hard disk and until recently the PS2 was not networkable out of the box. If none of this is making sense or you dont care, find the one with the most games you like !!!

As has been stated, most of the other games are available to each console.
Thats basically the biggest pro/con, unless you care about using it for a media center (required modifying, costs about $100 unless you know who to talk to). In which case the xBox wins IMO.
I've got an xbox and unless mates are over never play games, its just a convenient divx/dvd/mp3 player.

I have a PS2, and for driving games, I believe it is all I need. Thats is, Gran Turismo 3 ( and 4 soon.. hopefully.. god damn!) Need for Speed Underground 2, etc.
I thought the main difference was the fact that one had a better sound system and the other a faster processor. I am a nuffy about all this sorta stuff though, but can someone correct me there?
I didn't know about the Hard drives and so on. Obviously mine doesn't have that, and it hasn't been modded..yet. - Been threatening for years to do that one.
Hard to go wrong with either Spook.. A bit like buying a new car. Most, will be fine at the end of the day! They will all serve their purpose.

i've played one or two games on both x box and ps2, and i bought an x box.....
the only downside i know of is that i won't get gt4 when it comes out.... but second hand ps2's are really cheap 😉

p.s. the most realistic driving game i have ever played is project gotham 2 on x box only......and the moto gp bike games are pretty awesome too!

Well after a morning filled with problems, Even though spook was at work I think he was haunting us. (doesnt want to get an xbox) The purchase has been made. Xbox is the winner. We got the ultimate pack for $293 from kmart, which also included 3 games. We also purchased a second controller and nfs. So the kids are happy. Now all I have to do is keep them off the big stereo in the lounge room. My domain. No doubt once spook gets over the inital loathing of the machine. Which will take about 2 seconds I will lose my stereo as well🙁 The things I do to keep my family happy. Isnt the fact that I let him drive a vw enough......... A big thanks to everyone who offered advice. Mind you I did notice that after we got the xbox I noticed that the amount of games available on Ps2 far out weighed the selection on xbox. So if anyone wants to come play xbox head on round. Spook wont mind..... Thanks all. Mrs Spook
