After getting my beetle "Fixed" at a reputable sydney vw shop i drove away with a rattling sound.... thinking nothing of it i got out to penrith..... and then home again..... upon checking i saw a splitpin snapped off at one end.... i KNOW that it wasnt like that before as i had driven to the place with hubcaps off..... coz i hav been cleanin it.....

so the car sat like this for a few weeks, then i decided to check things out.... when i removed the split pin that was broken (still going through the holes, just snapped flush at one of them) i tapped the nut with a hammer..... realising that the nut was only hand tight...... few weeks ago i (90kg) was hanging off a 6.5ft bar tightening it ..... it was NOT hand tight ,...... i cant got onto this place and i am FURIOUS

where do i stand? they werent supposed to go near the reart axle at all and will probly claim that this is what happened ....... how can i fix this, i need a new drum and chances are ill need a new axle

I'm guessing your talking about the rear axle nut?
Did you tighten it, take it for a good drive and re-check? If you were fitting new bearings they often will need re-tightening as things settle in.
Make sure the shop has done the wrong thing first, if they have I'd take it back as is and take it up with them, most "reputable" places will fix a problem they have caused.
Good luck

Yeah give them the benefit of the doubt first. Ask them up front whether they did anything, and then take it from there.

As said , any decent place will look after you okay i reckon. Mistakes happen at the best of places.

I was at a Lexus dealer last week and a top of the line 430 ( the cabro ) came back as the wheel AND caliper bolts weren't done up!!! Scary shit !!!

Have a word with them and maybe be a little careful what you say about the place your on about til you've had chance to try and sort it out.

Sure you'll get sorted okay
