Happy new year to all.

Being fairly new to this forum (and Australia) and having spent far to many hours reading various threads, even really old ones, I feel like I know some of you better than most my mates that I left back home, so I thought I would ask your opinion.

Yes, I'm a Pom, and yes, I love VW's mostly Kombis but of course like any true VW enthousiast, I love love them all.

I have spent many hours over the last few weeks, sanding and preparing a 72, low indicators, early bumpers, for spraying.

Someone in the forum put me touch with someone who will hopefully spray it for me..... and I was wondering if anyone had any ideas, or examples of colours for an early (ish) bay.

All opinions and ideas gratefully received.

Oh yeah..... what an awesome country you guys live in..... will I ever make it home again??

what kind of look are you after?
what wheels are you gonna use?
I'm a big fan of Bahama blue lower body, and white upper body.
slammed on stock rims with white stripe tyres.

unless you're going for a new school look.
some trick metallic paint in a modern colour, and some big rims.

Magenta with 70's lime green vinyl interior and fluffy dice!

MAybe a purple would be a good colo0ur choice, not orignal vw colour but it should give it a bit of that individual look. easier to find in the parking lot too this way!
real, not plastic! Chrome, chrome and more chrome.

nice colour choices vwtyp2 the blue looks awesome in real life, and the old-school sealing wax would look nuts also. will post pics of the new colour of my (later) bay bus in teh next couple of days. it is PARTIALLY this colour

Oh yes........ vwtyp2 I like the Blue, is that a real colour code or reference? "Bahama Blue"???

As far as what look I am after....? Havent put enough thought into it. Been to busy day dreaming about random stuff whilst inhaling far to many primer fumes.

But, I am pretty sure I would prefer an old School look over something modern. Got to be lowered, obviously. Wheels... probally standard rims tob start with and see how it goes.

What do you reckon is the best/most effective/most economical way of lowering. I have cut and twisted once before... years ago.... did the job and ride was ok.

Thanks for the input guys, keep em coming, although I must say the Bahama Blue is certainly winning over the various shades of pinky red....

yep, Bahama blue is a VW colour.
it's the colour of the '71 panel I sold to Brendon (56 ovaltine)

my doublecab was towered by removing leaf springs.
got it down, but a very bouncy ride.

my current ride has adjusters in the front, and the back just has the spring plates re positioned.

here's my bay.

The Ford purple also looks like a winner .....

Really like the Bahama blue. Thinking I am going with that.

I bought this panel van the other day.... crying out to be slammed.... Was going to sell it on, but being my first panel....I am already thinking of sacrificing one of my other busses....

Time will tell, and I quite like the colour.. might paint the roof white and stick some mags on it. ooooohhh I love em. Even though I drew blood several times today trying to work out how to stop this nasty rattle coming from my fan housing..... think I am going to have to take the bloody engine out..

Type_one.... The Panel came with a recon 1600, or I think it might be an engine from Mexico... not sure. Code.... ADF.... i think. Anyone know anything. Anyway the engine is real shiny on the bits that count, got it running today but its making a nasty noise from the fan housing when I rev above idle. Going to take the dynamo and fan out tomorrow see if I can work out where its coming from without taking the engine out.... anyone got any ideas?

oh David.... like the bus mate.. she's a looker.

I suggest White top half and BMW black bottom half. Will be a bitch to get the sides spot on, but this combo would work well. Add fully polished Empi 5s or even polished/chromed fuchs and slam it all the way, and its almost right on the money.

Good Luck

Stu

hey Dozza,
is that the original dove blue?
it looks pretty nice in the pics.
Maybe leave it with the original paint, and liven it up with some old school style sign writing?
