I am CONSIDERING broadband, and am interested to hear opinions. If you have broadband, please give me some feedback. If it is terrible, or possibly slanderous/ liable, please U2U me.
Feedback from those broadband users?
THE LOWEST WITH THE MOSTEST BLING BLING WINS!!
Got Ozemail and I'm happy with it.
No dropouts so far and decent value with unlimited downloads.
Even their dialup was pretty painless.
You can get a good idea by reading the forums at whirlpool.net.au

I had telstra,
it was good, really good actually.
considering that telstra own most, if not all of the lines, i don't think that you will be able to find better/faster/cheaper.
I know that telstra were selling BB to optus at the same price that they were selling it to their customers.
(oh yeah, my wife works for telstra also)

I'm on the 1.5MB "unlimited" (20GB then throttling) plan and I'm very happy. For $50/month, compared to whats running at my old place which my parents now use, which is 1.5MB "unlimited (~80GB then throttling), I definitely prefer the TPG plan, but then again, I think I downloadded everything I wanted to when I had the higher limit.
I'd class myself as a very heavy user, and still don't really push the 20GB unless I try.

Sorry, but if you call $100/month for the same speed and 1/2 the data that I can pull on TPG, plus on top of that, inherent issues with mail servers, private website hosting, even dslam issues, bad service, huge call que times (they're shocking on TPG too, but I've had to call them once in 4 months as opposed to every fortnight with Telstra) competitive, then you could possibly have a real eye opener if you did some market research.
im with IINET.. good service.... the pricks sold me a USB modem.. AVOID USB MODEMS!...
or is it just me?...

You may struggle to get ADSL in Country Vic.. Some exchanges aren't set up yet.. (Can't get it in Melton)
Ive got Optus.... dont know if its good or Bad had a few arguments with them about downloads and over usage they hit you for are connection fee which is a sore point seeing its a flick of the switch.
We struggled to get a provider and that is only in Werribee. A lot of the service companies don't come that far into the country !!!!!
We are with Telstra, big pond ....... Had a few minor start up problems but got them sorted without drama. Is superquick and sooooooooo much better than dial in. Don't know how much it costs, but the deal must be good if Mr tightfist (sorry Rod !), was happy to pay for it !!!!!

whatever you do stay away from hellstra, they have a monopolistic stranglehold on telecommunications in Australia, an infrastructure that has been paid for by our taxes, with which they are using to screw users and other ISPs trying to access their network.
Go with another provider, they provide great uptime, better service and more value add items.

I am also considering broadband. So far IPrimus looks fairly competitive. Cann't comment on their reliability or service as I haven't signed up yet, but their packages look fairly good.
Ain't nothin' like the wind in your hair.
We are running broadband and have so for the last three weeks so like Dave I can't really say if it is good or bad other than to say if fast and reliable.
I'm surprised to be saying this but we're using Optusnet. A couple of startup probs in that they guranteed three seperate days for arrival and it was still late, then when finally connected the whole network was down state or nation wide.
Anyway - for $5 a more per month compared to dial up it has ruined my sleep patterns, sex life and my kids think there is a stranger in the corner on the computer now I have a three week growth.
We're limited to 1gb but sonce we don't download software and music this is heaps. Only use it for furms and email and it is continually running 24/7 unless a storm blows over and we disconnect.

Cable Cable Cable
I have been on broadband now for a long time (? years) and have tried a lot of different things. If you are thinking of going to ADSL over dial up, you may want to look into the speed in your area (sometime not much faster) but its still good to get your phone back. The next thing is speed...... it mostly comes down to where you live and how many people are on your local hub and how much money you want to spend. But if you can get cable your speed will be a whole lot higher. I use cable and I won’t be going back now, I have no phone problems at all and only a small amount of login problems. The as for who to go with, it comes down to the old adage that you get what you pay for. Some suppliers and they don't need to be small dump 50 to 150 people to any one hub when others only use about 50. I use telstra cable and Its under $60 a month plus I get other deals as well on my other bills but the best bit is I very lucky to only have 15 people on my hub. To give you an idea of what that means, the calendar that Gibbo made (16.9mb) I downloaded in 4.7 minutes.
Anyway I hope this helps

Ah yeah, if you can get cable, go that over any DSL supplier. Its a better more stable infrastructure. If possible, go Optus cable, but even Telstra cable is of a decent quality now. Unsure of pricing/details on all since not many places that I recommend broadband for people can get cable, but I believe they're all of a reasonable bang for buck ratio, unless you need huge amounts of data (ie: normal home users should be OK with most plans, just watch the excess data charges, ISP's who shape (slow down) your connection after going over the 'unlimited' break point are a much more viable option IMO.
Okay, well I want 1.5mb, about 15-20GB a month. Limit of around $60 per month. TPG are leading the race, but thanks for eveyones feedbakc. Tried whirlpool and it is great.. Great resource.
Thanks for the input again, and I will let you know if I go through with anything..

once u get broadband u never go back. i use swiftDSL and its brilliant never had any trouble
DoDo Broadband Unlimited...
We run a 256 4 port external modem which will soon be upgraded to a 512.. Computers normally stay on 24/7 in here with 2 and sometimes 3 systems online.
In the last 2 years DoDo went down only once for a couple of hours while they re-tooled...
Very good service, price is $49.00 a month, Unlimited download with good after hours support if you need it...
Unless the price changes dramatically, I won't be changing and will NOT go back to dial up...
Good luck..
i have TPG, i htink its called t1. 256 upload and some incredible figure download, always perfect, never a hassle.
