i have a 71 convertable with a whale tail on it i wanted to swaped to put my 74 but it wouldnt fit
anyone know about boots

do u mean engine lid? or the luggage compartment lid?

are your cars superbugs or standards? is your 71 a karmen convertable or a roof chop job? im not sure if the super bugs were interchangable from S to L bug but i definatly think the supers and standards were different. someone else will know for sure.

71 to 74 and L - S bug bonnets are interchangeable (ie engine covers) I think.
Is your convertible a Wizard roadster ? they have a shorter, different shaped fiberglass (I think) engine cover, which wouldnt have been interchangeable with a normal bug. I believe the wizard roadsters were also only two seaters ?
Post a couple of photos if you can, and then people might be able to help out a bit more.

Supers and standards were the same from the door hinges back.....
If its a KARMANN cabrio... well it may be different....
although I thought it would be the same....
a 1971 1302S Beetle engine lid will fit a 1974 standard Beetle.. there will be 2 sets of vents on the 1302S and 4 sets of vents on the 74 Beetle stnd or 1303S....
Just remember if its a Karmann Cabrio, it wasn't made by Volkswagenwerk but by Karmann in Osnabruck....
