Has anyone had a chance to have a ride in the new turbo diesel 2.5L 5CYL kombi (transporter)? if ya get offered a drive or a ride take it!! Its awsome! they have 17'' stockers just to clear the brakes and the rotors are HUGE... The thing comes on boost like its a sports car!! BUT ITS A VAN!! but thats maybe wat ya expect for 50 GRAND!!

I have this lt35 as my work van with the same donk and it goes pretty well for a big van so I'm sure the t5 flies.

is rear wheel drive,drive shaft and diff like most conventional cars,I like it.......I like it alot but being 6.5m long it loses traction on odd road shapes and corners on takeoff so one wheel burnouts are fun.

The t5's are FWD and the most powerful is a 128 kw 400nm TDI or 173kw V6 . 4wd versions will be available at a later date . All VW's now are going away from KKK turbo's to new Variable vane turbo's . The LT is based on the Mercedes sprinter and has the old T4 tdi which is updated with a new Garret turbo , it makes 80kw . The brakes are probably GTi units . I havent changed any yet but I have changed a set on a t4 V6 which had these pads . Also the pads have sensors on both sides now !
Got the 2003 Kombi here in the 5cyl Petrol version, these are great vehicles too. Economy isn't particularly great but they have a great turn of speed when they're up and going. Brakes are fantastic, Auto box is very smooth and doesn't surge with gear changes.
I have driven the V6, these have some serious get up and go. An exceptional van to drive and own. Never tried the TDI yet but I have heard reports from other owners that they get something like 1000K per fill up. They also apparently go really hard.
I still prefer the T4 Waterbottle over these models, the rear wheel drive is a little easier to handle in a big vehicle like this.
The wife drives the Kombi here, 2-5 Auto adn there is no getting her out of it. Ideal vehicle for trips with lots of kids or for carrying lots of gear comfortably around town or interstate. Do yourself a favour and test drive one....
