Right guys bit of a strange request but I am trying to find a new company name.

I originally setup my company VolksDreams a few years back. Since then another VolksDreams has popped up which perfoms work on peoples VWs, the only problem is they have a bad reputation and were once named something else but were forced to change their name because of their reputation.

My business just involves importing performance parts and i dont want people to think we are associated with the other volksdreams so has anyone got any ideas for our name change.

We import Turbonetics turbochargers, autometer gauges, aluminium race weight wheels, cnc brake systems and aeromotive fuel systems amongst other performance parts. So you can see that all these parts could appeal to any performance enthusiast.

Theres a few i have come up with but they all seem a bit lame:

1320 Performance
Performance Auto Parts
Bigger, Quicker, Faster Performance.
Street and Track Performance
Competition Performance
RPB Motorsport (My initials)

I dunno they all sound wrong, and I know volksdreams is wrong so its time for new ideas and a relaunch i think.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Rob.

Thanks for the ideas so far, I was thinking of also using the word performance in it somewhere but with it spelt Per4mance that way it will give the flat 4 theme in it.

Hmmm maybe Flat out Per4mance?

now my qestion is....how can you open another business with the same trading name it it is already registered.....cause when you register your trading name you actually own it as long as you pay your name registration fees every year .....
a law suit is in the air......sue them for using your business name in their favour as you have a reputable name and they used it in their advantage......sure can proof yours was registered before them.....:vader

Exactly what I thought! But apparently not, having the company name registered just means that the other company can't be VolksDreams Ltd but they can become VolksDreams PLC or even Volks Dreams Ltd, the only way to safe guard a name is to trademark it. And trademarks also have big holes as say i trade marked VolksDreams as a logo in a particular font, welll someone else can them trade mark volksdreams in a totally different font or colour and icant do anything about it!

The only way to do it would be to own all the possible ways/styles that the name can be written as trade marks and that would cost a fortune!!!!
Thats what big corporations do, i searched on VW and coca cola and each had over a thousand different trademarks, at £80 each trade mark thats a lot of cash!!!

So what i will do now is get a new name that cannot be associated with them in anyway and i will copy write it, you can do this by just printing out the name/logo and posting it to yourself, as long as it stays un opened it will stand up in a court of law as it will have the post mark and date on it of when it was posted and if a company crops up after you it will be proof of your copywrite! Its a hell of a weird system!

Hi,

I remember a few years back a group called "kettle chips" had this problem.

They had trademarked their name "kettle chip" because of the fact that they cooked thier chips in a big fat kettle style boiler. (I think) and they were only a small group.

But two or three other larger corporations then put out a new type of chip to their own range (same as kettle chips) and said things like :
New...cooked in a Kettle.... ectetcetc.

The corporations ahd counted on the fact that 'kettle chips' could not afford to have trademarked every type of phrase, font etc....with ketlle chips

Kettle chips took them all to court, and won the case. The basis of the win was that "kettle chips" whilst they could not trademark all the different phrases, or stop the others producing a 'kettle cooked' style of chip, it could expect that as it was it's tradename, the other corporations were to act responsibily, and not use such tactics.

Anyway, I think that was the jist of it....u may wish to check.

But I like
Per4mance Power 4 VolksFolks.
dubless. 🥲

I'd call your lawyer first,

then what might be worth doing at the same time is doing a big launch of the business name and logo. in the process, find all the your previous customer details and send them a flyer inviting them to the busines for a special discount for the month coz of re-opening or re-structuring or whatever you want to call it. Throw a big party and have a good time and invite all the local clubs to the party, have a saudage sizzle and give some stuff away. On the sly, tell all the important people there that the other business stole your name and is doing crap work using it.

This is a bad situtation but you could really make it work in your favour.
