ok i have a type one twin side plate box with a berg 5 speed conversion, the box has been blasted and is in as new condition as it has not been used since its been built. $950
The microtech lt8 (fuel & ignition computer) is second hand but is in perfect condition aside from the loom but you would obviously be manufacturing your own anyway. $500 firm
here is the box in all its glory 🙂 I have received loads of emails and u2u's. The box therefor is avaliable to these people in the order I received them. I am currently trying to contact the previous owner to verify the ratios but this information may not be forthcomming. Anyway this is it, its not been used since its been put together as the photos will indicate, it has plate on both sides and appears to be a standard case. Anyway if anyone (who has emailed me) is keen send me a second email and we can chat about the box.
After a bit of research I think this box is a True shift 5 speed kit, the berg 5 speed doesn't use the stock front mount and looks like this
showing the Berg front mount
Nothing wrong with a Trueshift box, I think Wayne Penrose runs one in his Mango Cabrio with a Turboed type 4 engine behind it.

The lt8 was running a u13 Pulsar with a det20. A 4 cylinder turbo that was running reasonable 1/4's. It is fully programable and has either a rs232 or usb port so you can connect it to your laptop. Either way microtech stuff is pretty easy to get running.
In regards to the box, well I was told it was a Berg but it may well be a trueshift, either way its a 5speed for a bug 🙂 I have sent emails to just about everyone that has contacted me. If i have missed anyone fire me an email.
It is a trushift box. I have just put one back together. There are some numbers on the box. I did count the teeth to work out the ratio it was around .77 or so or a taller 5th ratio than the original 4th however not by much. The motor has to be really good to go with the box as the top gear will make the engine rev lower and cool slower. Mine is to go in a split with reduction boxes so the first gear will be really slow and the 5th will be the same (a little bit less) final ratio as an early bug which will give bus speed and engine revs ok at 90ish kms.
