i would think you only get outbidded, by a higher bid. dont really matter when its placed. always its gonna be what youre prepared to spend. but i know what you mean.

When bidding on ebay check out th eother bidders about 10 minutes before auction close. Sometimes the other bidders are phoney as can be seen by their bidding history. If they have bought minimal cost items of a wide variety they are probably made up accounts, if they have bought nothing they are the sellers multiple accounts used to up the bidding. As a seller if you can increase the sales amount by a couple of dollars and are left with the final bid then the 5.25% commission is a small risk.

I know what u mean about last minute bidding...
I once had an item for whole time...then was outbid in last 25 seconds...but because i was watching item still able to grab it.
As for sellers pushing up price..why not just raise the reserve...or start the price where ur lowest acceptable amount is?

I use www.bidnapper.com there's a flat fee, no commissions. it puts the bid in within the last 5-10 seconds of the auction.
So people that think their stuff isn't going to sell and withdraw the auction illegally in the last 10 minutes like what happened to me with some postie bikes, don't realise that most of the bidding action happens in the last 2 minutes of the auction.
