just found this one at the wreckers in ipswich(near brisbane).it will be going on the trading post tommorrow morning,but i must warn you it is totally rusted and the owner at the wreckers is asking for parts in pounds converted to aus $$$.(i could get cheaper parts in the uk at a vw swap)but i thought that it looked good anyway.rusted semaphores are still in there(very bad condition,needing new lenses probably)and he wants $150 the pair so you get the drift.........and he said that he can get 700 pounds for the steering gearbox

he seriously thinks that hes going to get about $5000au for scap metal?????just thought that id post it for a laugh.....hed be lucky if somebody gave him 200 pound for it in england.....if he paid the shipping that is..!!!!
i tried to get a right hand side panel cut off him for our 56 splitty and he wants $150-$200 for it..........considering he told me hes going to scrap it in a week he can keep it!!!i would habe been willing to pay him about $150 for the whole thing but you could probably imagine the look on my face when he started going through his price expectations......sorry for the waste of space but i thought it would be a good laugh anyway!!!!!
forgot to mention that you can lift up the roof about half a meter and look inside!!!!!

Side panel brand new is only $485 why would you bother cutting it out and repairing it. Tell him now you have an importer bringing in parts from the UK selling them cheaper than scrap metal. gone are those days !
my exact thoughts classic vw!!!!!!you can almost build a whole splitty with replacement parts for what hes asking....but supposidly some very dissalusioned veedubber has given him a list of prices for the parts that he should charge:puke

Im here Roy, red rag, etc.
The problem is that people are wanting silly money for buses because us poms are coming over and buying them and shipping them back.
The problem is that the ones going overseas are good restorable and in most cases running buses.
Heres where it gets really silly.
People here see the prices and suddenly the heap of crap in the paddock turns into dollar signs before there very eyes.
I have seen some buses on this site worth about $1k -$2k and they have a price on them of $5-$7k.
I think someone has told this bloke that he could get $5000 for this bus if it was in England, he has been told a load of crap, even in England they wouldnt touch this as they are getting better ones a hell of a lot cheaper.
There has been a guy here in Adelaide who has been buying splits and taking them to England, he comes about 3 times a year and he buys running buses for about $1-$3k each.
Let the bloke scrap it its not worth anything as noone is going to fit a roof on a heap of scrap.

700 quid for a splitty steering box???
I saw plenty of splitties go for £££ that were (IMHO) ridiculous but £700 for a steering box, well I'll be *%$***ed.
Maybe I should reconsider the 4 splitties that have come in to the landfill site here and I am letting go to the crusher.
I thought there was probably $100 of usefull parts between them if I was lucky. Perhaps they are worth selling. Worth £££kkk maybe even?
Or maybe I'm caught up in this blokes dream.........

i can assure you that it wouldent make a "good rat" unless your idea of a good rat is something that will probably never drive.personally i think he thinks i just some silly bugger with lots of money(i seriously dont know where he got that idea) but i know that hes full of shit.for all i care he can crush the whole bus cause i dont want to give him a cent....
i forgot to mention that he reckons that the taillghts are worth around 100 pound each(if thier nos in box,ok fair enogh)but when the glasses are cracked and the chrome bezel has that many bubbles a pair in that condition would be worth around the $50us mar(about $60au because of the sockets)minus the ebay charges.
hell probably call me in the next few days asking if i want any parts which is when i will tell him what his pile of rust is really worth.and ill let him know what classic vw charges for his new panels.hell even on ebay.de you can get super cheap whole front masks(made in brasil so deffinatly not as good as the pom stuff)plus ill let him know that you can still get nice restorable splittys from some good aussie veedubbers from the forum in running condition for $1500au.for somebody that tells me that hes going to crush it in a week i really cant understand why he wants so much $$$ for it..???
DEFFINATLY A DREAMER AND ABIT SHIFTY IN MY OPINION!!!!ill have to ask him how much $ he gets per gram of good german metal......or i should just tell him to ship it to the uk where he can get 25k pounds for it just for a laugh.if you treat people like there stupid youll get treated the same way back in my opinion!!!ill have to check if its even in the trading post or if hes just full of shit!!
im actually thinking of offering him one of our rusted splittys (no where near as bad as his one)for $1000....if he thinks he can get 700 pound for the steering gearbox it should be a steal right??????im sort of glad that i didnt have to waste any $$ on it anyway as ill hopefully be bringing back a pre 49 split bug from germany in about 12 months.should be one more in aus then!!!!!😉
