VW Morals

Team, I was lurking on here the other week and there was a thread from someone who had found a splitty in the bush somewhere. He said that he may have to sell it on at a small profit as he couldnt afford to restore it properly. The "Splitty Mafia" immediately castigated him for daring to speak in such a manner - fancy making a profit from your good find!! Anyway, this got me to thinking - what would you do if you stumbled upon the find of the century (23 window barny, Heb, kublewagen with Hitlers skeleton in it etc etc) Knowing full well I couldnt afford the restoration that something like this deserves, I would sell it on to someone who could. Herein is the moral question - do you make a killing on your ultradesirable find, or make like a hippie and give it away in the quest for peace love and a never-ending bucket bong??? What would you do???

Speaking of getting cars for free - Lady from work told a VW friend of a car sitting on the side of the road for "years". Yes the vw friend went and looked and approached the owner of the car who simply told her that she could have it if she towed it away. The police and council had been onto her regarding it.

To cut a long story short, the VW friend knew I wanted a Baja and couldn't afford to go out and buy one, so offered me the car and even organised the trailer to bring it home. I am now the proud owner of a 74 Beetle that even though it needs a door, should scrub up OK.

As luck has it, on Friday we saw in the trading post was a complete Baja kit, with all types of extras for $120. I telephoned and went and saw it and bought it immediately. Even managed to hijack 4 rims and mud tyres (nearly new) for $50. So the Baja I have wanted has started thanks to the generosity of friends. What comes around goes around and I hope I can help my friends out in some way soon.

Totally agree.
I have given away parts or sold them for cost as long as they went to people who are going to use them.
I didnt get into VW's to make money, they are my hobby.

Sell it with profit i you want to, but with due care for what the faults and concerns were.
be reasonable for what you were asking and that way you can sleep at night with a clean conscience.
