Sheesh, I was looking forward to coming to uni and meeting some hippies driving kombis and guess what? I'm the only dub in the whole carpark the whole first week! There were plenty of skylines and lancers and beemers but no veedubs? What's happening to this world!! Boris gets lonely in the carpark.. Maybe I should try convert people? Any tips?

i've never seen any at QUT, i don't go there, but i go past sometimes. most uni people i've encountered (particularly 1st years) are wankers, so they drive lancers/celicas etc......

start up a VW Drivers guild at the uni, and offer free beer nights to all new members. the following day there will be a dozen VWs in the carpark:thumb:beer

QUT students

there's always a 60's shiny grey beetle just underneath Z block, lowered on chrome porsche rims (i think they are porsche rims)

I think it belongs to a staff member or technician because students would never get to park there. any idea who this belongs to?

any other dubbers at QUT? I rarely drive to school, my car doesn't like the freeway - too fast!

I had 6 years of vw owner/drivership at UQ in Brissy. Always saw the odd beetle or bus...not heaps but certainly a few roaming around!

I go to Curtin in WA...
Loads of dubs here....I walk past at least 5 every day...Sure it's not a lot, but think about all the old cars you see on the road and then I bet most of them are VW's, maybe a few Holdens and Falcons and then maybe a mini or two. Dollars to Donuts, Dubs rule when it comes old cars still on the road.

To finish off....How many international students go to your Uni? 80%? More?
If you had loads of cash and you send your kid to school in another country, would you let tham drive a crapped out old VW?...

Scratch that.....Of course you would, so the hell would I!!!
My 3 year old daughter loves VW's....Infact I have one in the shed, waiting for her!! Just gotta finish it for her!
FUCH your early!

im a QUT dubber🙂 i was thinking of a dub club too, im sure there are more out there (at qut) than meets the eye (they probably park at myer centre or southbank because the parking is cheaper)

and on very rare occasions, you get to see 2 lovely hippies and their ratty green split bus. keep an eye out for them🙂

maybe we should have a little meet at the guild bar one day?

on the other hand, if you go to QUT kelvin grove, you will find at LEAST 3 stunning beetles parked there on a regular basis, one of them being the yellow/black stripped wizard roadster that is owned by one of the creative writting lecturers there... my most fave bug in all of brisbane 🙂

but yeah, i agree, too many rice crackers at gardens point, but then again most of the students are pretty *poseur* too so it all works out in the end.

95% of the students at GP Campus QUT are Asians and have ricer cars... most seem to get handed on from group to group. Each adding their own set of performance stickers.

well i went to deakin, and the parking was expensive and hard to get a spot so i chose to park the bug about 10 minutes walk away where it was unlimited and free.

when I did my undergrad 10 years ago, I was the only that drove a bug that parked in the same carpark and ppl always used to laugh at it. The car park was always full of old lasers, geminis and when I was in my final year the nasty Hyundais started to rear their ugly heads !!!

at the uni of tas, there are only one or two dubs around - a gunmetal grey beetle and occasionally a dark green (i think) kombi. the beetle is in good nick, but the kombi, well....

busloads (proper buses, not dubs) of asians, who all seem to stick together. surely getting australian education isn't such a big deal to the asians anymore as all of them seem to do it?

infact, i spent 1/2 an hour staring at it and it is loooooooooow and does have porsche wheels... i also thought the guys driving it were rather dishy 😉 a beautiful bug...

we should have a QUT dubbers meet at the guild bar... any excuse to have a :beer

yeah I agree with the QUT dub meet! maybe even a uni dub club! being a cheapskate I usually park the car across the river and scooter across. only thing is you can't leave the car there for more than 2 hours

and brad I agree with you, there are heaps of asian ricers at QUT. I'm actually quite proud that I'm not one of them!

i go to UQ and you dont have to look to hard or far to spot a beetle or bus in the dustbowl (student carpark)...
i hate taking my beetle there as it gets covered in thick 'turn on the wipers' type dust that when it gets wet it then turns to a maple type syrup that goes everywhere... :puke
so now i take the ferry and after or more like during class i can :beer at the red room n dont worry about negotiating the drive home perssisd.. :duh
i do miss driving my beetle but

lams... depends where u park your car as to how long you can park there... if you park around stephens rd (a bit more towards the hospital than west end) you can park all day, and its just a 2 minite walk to the goodwill bridge. Thats where i used to park when i had a bug to drive to uni!

At UNSW there are a couple of beetles that I see and a Superbeetle, no other type 3s other than mine. I also see a couple of campers, but that is it. Of course UNSW has two other car parks that I never go to, but mostly engineering and commerce students/staff use it, so I doubt they have any dubs.
