Help with 2.4HZ wireless audio/video sender units

I got one of those "W home" sender units for the home TV, so I can send payTV or DVD or whatever in to another room.
but sorta got lost with the direction when it comes to the "IR Transmitting Diodes"...are these the things at the front of lets say a video player that picks up the remote ??
...help the kids are driving me nutz:vader
