I forgot to tell You Jo, the speedo is the easiest thing to replace in Your Beetle.... just 2 screws plus unscrew the cable
after You have pulled the lights out from the old one...
there are 5 or 6 bulb holders to pull out... all these have wires connected to them.... You just push them back into the correct holes in the KMH Speedo...
Probably best to label each wire with some masking tape...
Just write on the tape where it goes- top left - etc...
and wrap the tape around the wire...
Its Not too difficult as the wires are just the correct length to reach where they go...
There are a few plastic hoses You will have to remove under the bonnet to get at the Speedo...

"Karmann Cruiser"(avd username) has them for $90 including postage australia wide
I only use ebay in AUSTRALIA.....
I went to a VW show in Sydney a few years ago and a fellow there had a KMH SPeedo for sale....
wanted $200... for it....
I tried to get Him down.... but He said how many have You seen? I said NONE !!!! thats why it was $200.
but people are bringing them into Australia & selling on AUSTRALIAN ebay....
even the early 68 models with the chrome rings inside the speedo, same as the original one... or
Black & white as in the late model ones...
I actually drove My Sons 69 Beetle down the highway yesterday and I didn't have a clue how fast I was going....
I just kept behind the truck in front of Me..... 🙂🙂

Cool thanx lee I am writing down all the information I get from you and others on this forum 🙂 It's great to see VW people are sooo helpful. And I have always missed that they always wave to each other if you're driving another VW, I always thought it was great a few years back when I was just 18 and had gotten my first car/bug.
I called Matt who sells the VW speedos, he said he imports them from Germany. He sells them for $80 + postage which is good. I really want a klm speedo. 🙂 So thanx for that lost!!
Hi Foxy, i have one for sale, $120 inc post, you may have a later model though?
Excellent Condition

Thanx heaps andy, but I have a later model bug.
Thanks tho 🙂
We took our mph speedo to a speedo testing workshop along with an L bug KMH face and he changed it over for us. Now the face looks original and the dials click over in KM not miles. Cost about $60 + the old speedo from a wreckers.
