if we want to get into 'wat is a rat and wat isnt?' thats fine,
but as long as we realise thats NOT wat this category is about.
i do know wat u mean, rats in magazines all hav worked motors, great mechanicals etc, but then again, a stock rat wouldnt make it into a magazine, or even a car with great paint unless there was something truelly exceptional about it, get me?
i havent really seen a true rat at a show yet in the sense of big motor and lowered, but u only hav to look at 57chookshed winning best rat in adelaide to see wat others around r calling a rat, its slammed, looks sick, but has a stock motor.
then u hav frenzix's bug which could also be considered a rat yet its stock ride height, stock motor and looks so cool, coz he just drove it staright out of a barn and got it regoed.
if we limited the category to this it wouldnt include primered cars or matt coloured cars and all the other cool looking shit people are starting to do more and more of these days. and thats wat this is all about, i want to include cars that wouldnt usually get anything, although they r cool and deserve some recognition.

I think your idea is a great one.
I dont really like shows(call me a hypocrit) but most have agendas????
A trophy for just a nice vehicle that possibly isnt even in the show is a great idea,
Also what a great way to encourage people into the scene.

exactly matt, thats what im talking about, i dont see an issue with another club sponsoring a category, but seeing as there wasnt alot of notice given and i havent seen it done before at the nationals, i thought id ask first on here as maybe this year it would be low key, but get some enthusiasm going for next year when maybe either DNVK sponsor a properly organised category, where entrants know beofre hand there is such a category for them to enter in, or club vw do it themselves.

I don't see anything wrong with it....
there are many VW owners who know that their VW will NEVER beat the top restored VWs on Show...
or even have a "class" to enter their VW in........
So We do need More classes for the average ?? VW...
If its NOT allowed at the Nationals Sam....
How about in the Car Park.....???

Great to see a new initiative, go for it Sam. I would expect that Dave and the Club Vee Dub team would welcome this type of energy.
To keep this type of annual event interesting it is best to dump at least 1/3 of your program each year for something new.
These events need to respond to the current trends and that takes time and energy. It is easier to just redo what was done last year however they quickly become tiresome.
So I hope Sam is given the OK.
This is a good thread and I look forward to abit more of this sort of discussion on the forum.

another idea would be to put a print out of what car won what like best interior on the actual car before the day is ended and its 3pm when everyone has gone home and wonderd what got what, around lunch would be good then everyone could see the car and not wonder whos car is whos

I'd be very surprised if this was allowed as an award. But like all good things in life there are work arounds. They choose to call it people choice. Just get everybody to vote for the one car you think is the rattiest. Secretly we'll all know. It would surely win.
