I've always wanted a bay window combi , full on travellers van. All the gear , fridge , curtains , sleeping etc , etc. Now i have an excuse, kind of.

Talking to my relos in the uk , my sis and her kid want a holiday in Oz next year. My folks are funding it ,even better.

I mentioned buying a combi and touring around , take 2 months off work and cruise what we can . 3 of us should be fine in a bay with a mix of awning , tent and the odd hotel. Best way to see Oz , also alot cheaper , more fun and in a VW!!!!

What i'm trying to cost is the price of a ready to go combi up to such a trek.

Must be fully loaded ready to go , all mod cons. Not worried , lowered etc., full on camper required.

Final outcome would also mean a cheap camper for me , muhahahaha .

Question is how much would i be looking at and where's a good place (apart from avd) to look closer the time.

I'm thinking 6-7K should get something pretty decent???

Advise please!

Thanks Dan

You see them for sale on the North Coast of NSW.....

Never seen more than one at a time though...

VW Kombis spelt with a K.... KOMBI...

SAAB spelt their car COMBI...

Although VW has never actually used the word "Kombi" on a Vehicle....

Don't forget to check at the Nationals on EASTER SUNDAY....

There are always plenty of them at Valla-Nambucca ... BUT

I don't think its on again until Next year....

This might be good timing for you. I'm selling mine, I've owned it for the past five years, nothing mechanical left to do bar service it. I've just had it delivered from Perth rail and road, I have a company car and a Type 3 so it's probably got to go. I set it up for space and lightness, the camping stove can be set up outside etc, it has a double futon bed in the back and a storage area that fits a collapsed mountain bike and God knows what else. I've had new tires fitted in December, Dunlop Gand Treks, with 4WD tread. It's a really head turner and will be perfect for the grand tour. It's a 2lt. Give us a call if interested, I'm in the northern beaches area mainly. $6500. Oh and beware of the backpacker mobiles, they will be largely shagged. I'm not in a great hurry to sell it so have a good look around mate.

If you know what you're looking for, you can get something decent for as little as $3 grand. If you want something really schmicko, then $6-7K is definitely the right ballpark. Most wont have an awning though. I'd recommend starting to look now.

I think someone in Towoomba on here had a nice cherry red camper and only $1900 - that leaves some money for improvements and an awning etc. If you can ask an independent party on here (AVD members) to check things out all over Australia, you can get a good bargain. For the price of a one way flight somewhere in Australia, you could have the best vehicle and a good starting point for a trip.

Adelaide is a good place for rust free busses (climate), and I'm sure that Desert Moose would be able to give you some info on Perth Busses. Because there are so few freaks over there in WA, you can get some really great bargains. Start looking now and you wont be dissappointed. Best of luck!

hey, I saw a guy on ebay with a green camper...

he had a VW camper tent, which he was prepared to sell after the auction for $400.00.

the bus and tent were to be sold for $1400.00 in total (but i think it didn't sell at all)

will go back to my ebay watch list to check...u may be able to make an offer, and get it fitted to taste whilst waiting for sister

I have a VW made manual for a 57 Kombi and it lists Kombi in there, it is the base model without seats.

Kombi is a specific model.

Cheers

6000 to 7000 will get you an exellent kombi as above look in trading post, ebay, carpoint, even try caravan & m/homes mags & a good warning about
ex backpacker kombi,s , they would have not been taken care of as much
if at all like a privately owned one.
good luck
(a kombi is three in one, car,caravan,4wd)
